Volunteer Instructor Fern McKeithen teaches local youth the art of public speaking in preparation for their play performance later that week during the Centennial Cultural Center’s annual Drama and Literacy Camp last week in Olla. The camp features instruction in drama, speaking, reading and writing in cursive and at the conclusion of the camp, participants perform a short play and receive a backpack with items such as books, stickers, pencils and other back-to-school items. The camp is sponsored by the Dollar General Summer Literacy grant, which the center received for the first time this year, as well as Drax Biomass through a monetary donation and employee volunteers for the camp. The CCC personnel and board would like to thank Dollar General and Drax Biomass along with all the volunteers and sponsors of the center’s summer camps and other events throughout the year. During the summer, the CCC hosts several camps involving science, art and more as well as a camp for students with special needs. For more information about the CCC and upcoming events and/or to volunteer, call 495-7988 or visit www.culturalcenter.us
