History made in parish last week

History was made in LaSalle Parish last week during qualifying for the fall election. For the first time in 60 years, Dr. I. C. Turnley, Jr., did not qualify for the office of Coroner.

In the fall of 1959, Dr. Turnley had just opened his office in Jena and started his practice here. Hershel Floyd, who was running for sheriff to succeed his father, D. Floyd, approached Dr. Turnley about seeking the office.
