Janice Lucille Richmond

Janice Lucille Richmond, 72, of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, after an extended battle with cancer.

She was born on December 4, 1946, to the union of Jim and Josie Richmond in Caldwell Parish where she grew up. She lived in Jena, LA for over 10 years in the late 1960’s and 1970’s where she was a charter member of the Jena Jaycees Jaynes and helped form the first ever Jena Dixie Youth Tee-Ball League.

During her life she held many jobs, including apartment manager, loan officer, and special needs home health representative, until her health forced her to retire.

Her passions included birds, flowers, and the love of her life, her children and grandchildren. She was a Christian who prayed every day and night for her family, calling out her children and grandchildren by name.

She had a big heart with a love for everyone she met and would talk about her children and grandchildren with everyone - even people she met for the first time. Her love for others was also displayed even in death as she wanted to do something to help cure cancer so others would not have to suffer from the disease.

So, at her request, her body was donated to the LSU Medical Center so research could be done to help prevent and save others from having to suffer from cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jimmy Richmond, and her granddaughters Lauren Franklin and Kassie Franklin.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Penny Franklin Justus of Bastrop, Glen Franklin, Craig Franklin and wife Kim, and Scott Franklin, all of Jena; her sisters, Sharon Curtis and husband Glynn of Grayson, Gloria Parker and husband Cecil from Picayune, MS, and Kay Stinnett and husband Walter from Terrell, TX, one brother, James Richmond and wife Barbara from Sapulpa, OK; and sister-n-law Rhonda Richmond of Columbia.

Her remaining legacy also includes her grandchildren, Matthew Justus, Kerie Morgan, Leah Floyd, Paige Franklin, Claudia Franklin, Reagan Watkins, Tyler Franklin, Tanner Franklin, Trace Franklin, Tripp Franklin, Ryan Franklin, Jenna Franklin, and Rachel Franklin, along with 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is set for 3 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Fellowship Baptist Church located west of Columbia, LA, with Revs. Joey Kennedy and Craig Franklin officiating.
