Melissa D. “Missy” Hunter, 53, of Jena, was called to accept her heavenly home on Sunday, December 29, 2019.

She was born December 13, 1966 in Jena to the union of her parents, J. B. Hunter, Sr. and Laura Hunter.

Melissa confessed Christ at an early age and united with New Evergreen Baptist Church in Jena, and attended Trout Creek Baptist Church.

She attended and graduated from Winnfield High School, a member of the Class of 1985. She was an employee of LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena for 20 years.

A celebration of life was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, at Trout Creek Baptist Church of Good Pine with Rev. Jamerson Jackson officiating.

Interment followed in the Webster Cemetery in Good Pine under direction of Gayden Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her mothers, Laura Hunter and Lucille Turner; and three sisters, Donnitta Hunter, Adrienne Hunter, and Dlolita “DeeDee” Hunter.

Her memory will forever be in the hearts of her two daughters, M’Andreia Hunter and A’Leisha Coleman, both of Jena; her lifetime companion, Clarence Allen Coleman of Jena; her father, J. B. Hunter, Sr. (Linda) of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Deneen Dangerfield of Jena and Tina Hunter of Los Angeles, CA; five brothers, J. B. Hunter, Jr. and Marcus Hunter, both of Wichita, KS, Maurice Hunter of Jena, Haracheo Jones of Los Angeles, CA, and Kenneth Dudley of Winnfield; three grandchildren, Carter Martin, Lauren Lee, and Delilah Hunter, all of Jena; special friends, Kimberly Miller, Carol Brown, Robin Hendrix, and Dorothy Johnson, all of Jena; and a host of uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers were Anthony Stromile, Patrick Cooper, James Miles, Leroy Hardwell, Howard Jackson, Dewayne Howard, Thomas Turner, and Fredrick Bowens.

Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Allen Coleman, Ja’Ray Jenkins, Zy’Kerrik Hunter, Rafeal Dangerfield, Chris Walker, J. B. Hunter, Sr., J. B. Hunter, Jr., John Jenkins, James Wright, Carter Martin, Maurice Hunter, Marcus Hunter, Haracheo Jones, Marquel Lonzo, Quentin Purtue, Brian Evans, Ernest Holmes, and Paul Parkman.
