Officials raise water rates in town of Jena

On the advice of the town auditor, Jena officials voted during their regular February meeting held Tuesday night of last week to increase water rates averaging about 15-percent.

Mayor LaDawn Edwards said this is the first time water rates have been increased since 2003, and the town auditor recommended the increase to keep the water system operating in the black.

“This is a slight increase,” she noted. “We are not trying to make a fortune on the water system; just need to break even.”
