Continuing the legacy
Olla family feeding the hungry during crisis

“If my momma was still alive, she would have been leading the pack in feeding people during this time,” Stacy Foy of Olla said of her mother, Gayle Meredith, last Wednesday while filling cups of vegetable beef soup. “She passed away four years ago and what we’re doing is keeping her legacy alive.”

Foy and other family members have been averaging feeding around 300 people two or three times a week for the past three weeks outside of the family business, Alkies, in Olla. One day they fed around 400.

“It started out with just our family buying and cooking a meal from our own pockets and out of our own kitchens,” she said. “But once we started feeding people, donations starting coming in and volunteers started helping.”
