Governor eyes extending orders through May

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards delivered remarks late last week that sent shock waves through most of Louisiana.

During his daily coronavirus briefing last Thursday, the governor said that he expects measures ordered to slow the spread of the coronavirus to remain in place through the end of May, although he is not ready to officially say yet whether he will extend the Stay at Home order when it expires on April 30.

Nationally, President Donald Trump is leaning towards opening the country back up to some sense of economic normalcy May 1, but the governor’s order would supersede the President’s directive should he decide to extend his executive order.
