Prominent Jena leader succumbs

LaSalle Parish and Jena in particular lost a long-time businessman, dedicated public servant, and parish leader in the death of Charles Otto Williams on Thursday of last week. At the time of his death, he was serving as chairman and member of the Board of Commissioners for LaSalle General Hospital and LaSalle Nursing Home.

Charles was born April 15, 1929 to the union of Clifford Otto “Pop” Williams and Doris Stringer Williams of Good Pine. He was raised in Good Pine and graduated from Trout-Good Pine High School in 1946, and honorably served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1947-1949.

After his military service, he received his B. S. degree in Accounting at Northwestern State University, earned his Masters degree at the University of Texas, and then passed the CPA exam in 1955.

Charles was self-employed as a Certified Public Accountant in Jena for more than 50 years. During those years as CPA, he served numerous public bodies as auditor.
