Throughout north LaSalle and beginning to show up all over the parish, wooden pallets painted as American Flags are adorning yards, homes, and businesses. While the displays say much about the owners’ patriotism, it says much more about their love for longtime teacher, Doris Barnhill.

Barnhill, who retired in 2018 after teaching mostly pre-k and kindergarten for 33 years in LaSalle Parish, was diagnosed with Stage IV Inflammatory Breast Cancer the first of June.

The unique fundraising project started out at Barnhill’s home church, Olla Methodist Church, originally as a way to raise money for the children of the church to attend summer camp.
