Retail sales hold steady
Despite shutdown due to Covid-19

Retail sales for fiscal year 2019- 20 held steady despite the prolonged shutdown because of the Coronavirus which halted a lot of businesses in mid-March. However, essential businesses, which generate the majority of sales taxes, continued to operate.

According to figures just released by the Concordia Sales Tax Collection Agency, which collect sales taxes for several bodies in the parish, tax collections was down parish wide and in the town of Olla, but up in the town of Jena.

On the first of three one-cent sales tax collected by the LaSalle Parish School Board, collection was down by $431,114.27 from the previous year, but was higher than collections in fiscal year 2017-18.

In 2019-20, the school board collected $2,599,875.88, compared to $3,030,990.15 collected in 2018-19. However, it was noted that additional audit revenue totaling $390,904 was added to the 2018-19 totals, which accounted for much of the difference. Additional audit revenue added this past year was $77,579.
