Melba Rae Bradford

Melba Rae McGuffee Bradford, wife of the late Rev. Oscar Bradford, entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, July 19, 2020 in St. Francis Hospital of Monroe, following a brief illness.

Ms. Melba was born to the union of James Coy, “Big Dad” and Ida King McGuffee on December 17, 1934 in Harrisonburg. She passed from this life at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 2 days.

Ms. Melba spent her working career for many years as a school teacher in the LaSalle Parish School System. She also carried the duties of a minister’s wife. Her husband, the late Rev. Oscar Bradford served as pastor of many local area churches as well as abroad. She will be remembered for her sweet Christian spirit and kind word for everyone.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, at Pritchard Baptist Church in the Old River Community with the Revs. Warren Eckhardt and Terry Doughty officiating.

Interment followed in Spring Ridge Cemetery at Aimwell under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Oscar Bradford; one son, Richard Bradford; father, James “Big Dad” McGuffee; mother, Ida King McGuffee; and two brothers, Slagle McGuffee and Henry McGuffee.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dawn B. Bartlett of Calhoun; adopted daughter, Frances Robinson of Delhi; special cousin, Gail Blackman of Sterlington; one sister, Shirley Bartmess and husband John Ed of Enterprise; sisters-in-law, Wilma McGuffee, and Wanda Mills and husband Warren, all of Jena; her grandchildren, Whitney Stringer and husband Alex of Belah, Payton Sanson and wife Olivia of Russellville, AR; her great-grandchildren, Tristan and Emma Kate Stringer, with one great-grandchild on the way.
