Todd Patterson

Todd Patterson

James Todd Patterson, 55, of Minden, a former coach and teacher in the LaSalle Parish School System, passed from this life on August 17, 2020 in Shreveport.

He was born September 27, 1964 in Phoenix, Arizona to the union of his parents, John I. Patterson and Joy Darden Patterson.

Todd was a man who “wore many hats” in his daily life. He was an educator as well as serving as a paramedic and deputy coroner for Webster Parish. During his career as an educator, Patterson, who was lovingly referred to as “Coach Pat”, was a softball coach, served as Vice-Principal at Minden High School and recently served as Principal of Doyline High School.

He was well-respected and loved by those he worked with. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Minden.

Patterson was teaching at Grayson Elementary School and assisting with coaching at Caldwell Parish High School when Superintendent Cary McGuffee recruited him for the LaSalle School System in 1994.

Known to local athletes and students as Coach Patterson, or Coach Paddy, he taught at JJHS from 1994-2004. While in Jena he coached JJHS 7th & 8th grade football, 8th grade boys basketball and JJHS girls softball. He assisted the JHS football coaching staff on the sidelines on Friday nights and weekends breaking down film to prepare for the next weeks opponent.

Also, during those years he assisted the JHS softball team but was only an Assistant for JHS softball from 2002-2004. As a teacher, he was known to drink lots of coffee and if you was in the hallways after the class bell rung you was for sure to hear him holler “get out the halls, get to class”!

Many of his 8th grade science students notably remember him for his 3-foot aluminum rod. He would walk around the classroom and consistently drop and let it reverberate especially if he knew it agitated his students, although it was always just a fun jester.

Coach Patterson was a teacher that no matter if you had a problem or wanted someone to talk to he was always there to listen and if he felt that you needed encouragement he would give that too. Education and high school athletics lost a great educator and mentor in the death of Coach Paddy.

Todd will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mittie and Paul Darden and Dot and Lamar McKeithen.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Amanda Harrison Patterson; his parents, Joy and John Patterson; his sons, J. T. Patterson, Price Darden Patterson and Connor Seth Patterson; his step-son, Harrison Sweeney; his sister, Kimberly Fisher and her husband, William; two grandchildren and one nephew, Christopher Fisher.

A private graveside service was held under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

The family request memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice.
