Peggy Poole Routon

Peggy Poole Routon, 81, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria.

She was born Friday, October 14, 1938 in Jonesville to the union of her parents, Billy Poole and Debbie Hudnall Poole.

Ms. Routon was a resident of Jonesville and a member of Harrisonburg First Baptist Church, where she gladly served as a Sunday School teacher, G.A. Leader, youth leader and deacon’s wife.

She enjoyed sewing, making flower arrangements, bird watching, reading and cooking. Mornings were her favorite time for drinking a good cup of coffee and reading God’s Word. She absolutely loved spending time with her children and especially her twin granddaughters, who were the light of her life.

Services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 14, at Harrisonburg First Baptist Church with Dr. Phillip Caples and Robert Bradley officiating.

Interment followed in the Harrisonburg Cemetery under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Arthur Routon; two sisters, Billy Jean Poole and Gail Poole Francis; and niece, Sara Morgan.

She is survived by a son, John Kevin Routon and wife Jodie of Jonesville; a daughter, Karla Routon McGuffee and husband Layne of Jonesville; two granddaughters, Chloe John McGuffee and Carsen Layne McGuffee; precious family she considered her own, Mary and Ernie Reeves, Ernie K. Reeves, Casey and Abby Reeves Ryan and daughter, Kathryn Belle; and three life-long friends, Katherine Wright Purvis, Levy Davis Hutchins and Evelyn Kirkland Halfin.

Pallbearers were Ernie K. Reeves, Casey Ryan, John Wesley Smith, Rox Routon, Chris Towell and Tracy Holloway.

Honorary pallbearers were Charles Juneau, Ken Terry, Lavon Smith, Melvin Purvis, Bill Sargent, Robert Flacy and Greg Terry.

The family request memorials in her memory be made to Harrisonburg First Baptist Church.
