Annie Ruth Byrd

Annie Ruth Taylor Byrd, 89, of Chelsea, Alabama, and a native of Jena, passed into eternal rest at 6:30 p.m., on Sunday, November 8, 2020 in Birmingham, Alabama.

She was born December 10, 1930 in Jena to the union of her parents, John Marion Taylor and Lola Beck Taylor. She spent her childhood in the communities of Belah and Fellowship.

Annie attended college at Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, where she attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Home Economics. After college, she obtained employment with the State of Louisiana working in Vocational Rehabilitation in Alexandria, and Shreveport, where she remained until retirement.

Her Christian Faith led her to serve by taking care of the youngest in the nurseries at Horseshoe Drive Baptist Church in Alexandria, Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport, and Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea, AL. She was a grandmother to hundreds, if not thousands, over the years...and loved every one of them.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, at Woodland Memorial Park, east of Jena, with longtime friend and counselor, Brother Billy Crosby, Pastor Emeritus of Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport officiating.

She was buried next to her parents, under direction of Rose Neath Funeral Home of Marksville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Marion Taylor, Jr.; and sister, Marilyn Elaine Taylor.

Survivors include her son, Alan Byrd and wife Mary of Columbia, LA; daughters, Debbie Byrd of Austin, TX. and Laura Byrd Cain and husband Phil of Chelsea, AL; grandchildren, Summer Morris, Dallas Rittinger, Jerry Byrd, David Byrd, Courtney Byrd Watts, Tanner Cain, Taylor Cain Norris, and Madison Cain; great grandchildren, Brendan, Tyler, Kaylie, Callaway, Caeden, Laci, Cameron, Alex, Benny, Sofia, Kaiden, Sawyer, and Nora.

Pallbearers were Alan Byrd, Jerry Byrd, David Byrd, Alex Byrd, Kaiden Watts, and Eric Byrd.

Memorial donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Church Preschool Ministry or Widow’s Might Ministry, 11050 Chelsea Road, Chelsea, AL 35043.

A celebration memorial service is tentatively scheduled in Chelsea, Alabama, at Liberty Baptist Church on Saturday, November 21, at 10 a.m.
