Jury stands at crossroads with garbage system

First and foremost, I have never supported a tax issue that I didn’t feel would benefit our parish. Over the past few weeks I have heard many comments concerning the proposed halfcent sales tax the Police Jury has placed on the December 5th ballot to fund the parish wide garbage system.

Before they make a final decision, I feel voters need to consider all the facts concerning the need for this extra revenue, and what they can expect if the measure is not approved.

May I reflect back to when I first moved to LaSalle Parish in the late 1960’s? We had several open dumpsites around the parish where people would just dump trash, and every now and then, the Police Jury would send a dozer out to push the garbage up in a pile and burn it.
