Dennis Glenn Masters, 64, of Jena, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.

He was born November 17, 1956 in Pineville, to the union of his parents, Enos LaVel Masters and Linnie Fay Morris Masters.

He was most often called Dinky, the nickname given to him as a little boy.

Dinky graduated from Jena High School in May 1974 at the age of 17, joined the Louisiana National Guard and left for bootcamp at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri the following summer.

During his lifetime he worked for his father logging and roofing; offshore as a crane operator; as a rodbuster foreman overseeing the construction of buildings and bridges; and before becoming disabled he owned and operated Masters Handyman Services, LLC. He referred to himself as a “Jack of all trades, and the Ace of none”.

He was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 11 years. He was a man full of faith who loved the Lord. He loved his church and church family.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved being outdoors. He loved spending time with his grandsons. He loved his family. He loved to laugh and joke. He loved to read, study his Bible, listen to contemporary Christian music, especially Third Day, play dominos, cook, and solve word search puzzles.

He always had a love for his pets. He loved his Yorkie grandpet “Thor” whom he affectionately called “Chester”.

A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, at Trinity Baptist Church, east of Jena, with Rev. Mike Russelll and Bro. Tim Kirl officiating.

Interment followed in the Hailey Cemetery, off of Hwy. 127, south of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 44 years, Connie Hailey Masters of Jena; son, Corey Dion Masters and wife Allison of Jena; daughter, Shanna Lalise Masters Powell and husband Larry of Tullos; grandsons, Dillon Montana Masters, Talen Dion Masters, Tommy Zayne Masters, Andrew Connor Powell and Jonas Parker Valentine; special nephew, Jason LaVel Masters of Jena; brother, Kenneth LaVel Masters of Jena; sisters, Shirley Masters Newman, and Kathy Masters Robertson and husband Donny, all of Jena; in-laws, Earl D. Hailey, Sr. and Thalia D. Hailey; aunts, uncles, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Pallbearers were Dillon Masters, Jonas Valentine, Larry Powell, Lesley King, Shaun Keen, and Billy Sharbono.

Honorary pallbearers were Earl D. Hailey, Sr. and the Deacons of Trinity Baptist Church - Sonny Bignar, Joe Coleman, Robby McDowell, Bart McGuffee, Stephen Nolker, Jeff Randall and Charles Turnage.
