Robertson’s duck call bought by area grocer

Reggy McDaniel had barely gotten his hands on Duck Commander Phil Robertson’s millionth duck call of 2013 before deciding to share it with the world.

4-H Sweet Potato top sales people…

LaSalle Parish 4-H members sold 220 forty-pound boxes of sweet potatoes in the fall as part of a fundraiser for the 4-H program. The top three sales people have been recognized for their outstanding sales. Top salesman was Samuel Keene, son of Dustin and Ashley Keene, who sold 35 boxes. Samuel is a member of the 7th grade 4-H Club at Jena Junior High School and is shown (in picture at left) with JJHS 4-H Leader Gail Russell.

Creation of the Jena Community Garden

A new community activity has recently cropped up in the town of Jena – the creation of a community garden. The garden was the topic of discussion at a recent luncheon with Good Food Project Director Frances Boudreaux as the special guest. The Good Food Project belongs to the Food Bank of Central Louisiana, which is in partnership with the Central Louisiana Community Foundation.

Cold is as cold feels and I don’t like feeling cold

I was sitting on the back porch sipping an ice-cold tea with a splash of lemon when I received a text from a relative up north. I was enjoying a pleasant afternoon basking in the winter sun of Florida. I am not sure what God
was thinking of when He created the north with all that bad weather and snow and such, but I know what He was thinking of when He created the South especially Florida. He was thinking in particular of me and my insatiable love of the sun.

Jena High students conduct mock trial recently

Jena High School students  from Mike Doughty’s English II Honors class and Lynn Enterkin’s gifted classes recently held a mock trial centering around the book, “Lord of the Flies,” by William Golding. The Honorable J. Christopher Peters, Judge of the 28th Judicial District Court, presided over the mock trial as the students served as attorneys, witnesses, the baliff, etc
