Percy Sledge was the featured entertainer for the annual Howdy Neighbor Day

Percy Sledge was the featured entertainer for the annual Howdy Neighbor Day held in the Jena Town Park last Saturday. A record crowd of visitors was reported in the park throughout the day for all the entertainment and activities. The event is sponsored each year the day after Jena High School’s homecoming to give visitors to Jena the opportunity to meet and visit with old friends. Members of the Jena Colonial Trails Committee, sponsor of the day, expressed their appreciation to everyone for their help and to those who attended to make the event such a success.

Anniversary

Jimmy and Sylvia Young of Jena will celebrate 51 years of marriage on Monday, October 7th. They were married Oct. 7, 1962 in Shreveport. A native of LaSalle Parish, Rev. Young is pastor of L & A Baptist Church in Good Pine. The couple returned to LaSalle Parish several years ago after serving in the ministry for many years in Detroit, Michigan.

Morgan LaRae Allen and Weston Trent Francis of Jena are pleased to announce their engagement and approaching marriage. The bride-elect is the daughter of Raymond and Barbara Allen of Jena. She is a graduate of Jena High School and a 2011 graduate of Central Louisiana Technical College-Rod Brady Branch with a LPN degree. She is currently employed at LaSalle General Hospital.
