LHS Band earns top ratings

The LaSalle High School Band earned the ratings of Superior in Concert Performance and Excellent in Sight Reading for the overall rating of Superior at the Louisiana Music Educators’ Association State Music Performance Assessment – North Region at Airline High School in Bossier City.

LaSalle was the only band from classes A and B to earn an overall superior rating in the North Region.

Kenna Faith Edmonds

Shawn Michael Edmonds is pleased to announce the birth of his baby sister, Kenna Faith Edmonds.

Kenna Faith arrived at 12:44 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. She weighed 7-pounds 10-ounces and measured 19-inches in length.

Three LaSalle High FBLA

Three LaSalle High FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) members placed Superior at FBLA District II Leadership Conference (Regionals) and advanced to state competition – (left to right) Kade Hillestad and Anna Clingan (Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure) and Colton Herrington (Journalism) – where Clingan placed fourth and Herrington placed ninth at the FBLA State Leadership Conference last month in Lafayette.

DU banquet held March 30

The Catahoula Lake Misc Chapter of Ducks Unlimited held a Gunbash/Crawfish Boil Friday night, March 30, at the Jena Community Center, where money was raised through memberships, raffles, and an auction. Overseeing the event was Tommy Jackson, Region 1 Director for Louisiana and Russell Dorton, local member. Thousands of dollars were raised at the event for DU programs with DU highlighting that 83% of all money donated goes to waterfowl and wetlands conservation and education. A ribbon cutting ceremony

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held last Saturday morning during Tractor Supply Company’s grand opening ceremony in Jena. The new retail outlet opened in March at 356 Airport Drive (LA 8) in Jena, and held its formal grand opening Thursday through Sunday. Jonesville Balloon Festival plans “Gospel Music” day

One of the highlights of the 3rd Annual Four Rivers Balloon Festival planned April 20-22 in Jonesville will be Sunday’s day-long gospel singing featuring well-known performers throughout the Festival’s final day. Headlining the gospel entertainment will be award-winning Jeff & Sheri Easter, along with their daughter Morgan.

They are set to take the stage from 2 to 5 p.m. on April 22. The opening gospel act at 10 a.m. will be the Todd Tucker Family. The Tuckers are well-known in the area, as Todd is the minister at Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church.

Gareth Liam Smith

Steven and Morgan Smith of Jena are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Gareth Liam Smith. He was born at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at the Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Alexandria. He weighed 7-pounds 1-ounce and measured 19 inches in length.

Maternal grandparents are J.D. and Mellanie Randall of Jena and Jeff and Robbie Tarpley of Natchitoches. Maternal great-grandparents are Harold “Buddy” and Margaret Book of Larto and the late Howard “Monk” and Clarice Tarpley of Jonesville.

Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held last Thursday morning, March 22, for the new location of the Phoenix Family Life Center, a division of Cognitive Development Centers of Seaside Healthcare, at 3683 S. First Street in Jena.
