Memorial Day programs planned

Three Memorial Day programs are planned this weekend to honor the memory of fallen soldiers from this area and from throughout the nation. The first of the three programs will be held in Tullos this Saturday, May 23rd, beginning at 10 a.m., at the downtown Pavilion.

Graduation at LaSalle High School will be at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 14, at Tiger Stadium. Graduation at Jena High School will be at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 15, at the Guy Campbell Memorial Athletic Complex

State budget likely to take different trajectory in session

The House Appropriations Committee may not advance the main budget bill this session on a recognizable schedule. That’s because Appropriations Chairman Jim Fannin, R-Jonesboro, said he may wait until he gets a clear picture on what revenue bills the Senate is willing to send back to the House, which may come late in the session. Lawmakers must end the session by June 11.

Nearly 300 students

Nearly 300 students from LaSalle, Catahoula and Concordia parishes gathered last week at Jena High’s Guy Campbell Memorial Stadium for the ninth annual Special Olympics. Over 400 staff and parents/guests cheered the students on as they participated in walks, runs, tosses and jumps and more importantly everyone seemed to have a great time.
