Bookmobile route includes two schools

The LaSalle Parish Library’s Bookmobile has recently taken up a different route with over 800 new children and young adult books to circulate among the parish’s youth. The bookmobile’s new route includes stops at Nebo and Fellowship Elementary schools each week. According to Library Director Andrea Book, the bookmobile has been an ongoing program for decades, but visiting schools is a first in recent years.

LaSalle High School 2013

LaSalle High School 2013 Homecoming Queen Cara Brooke Prewitt was crowned by Principal Dr. Sheila King during the pep rally at the school last Friday. Also shown is her father, Kenny Prewitt. Brooke is the daughter of Kenny and Carrie Prewitt of Olla, and the granddaughter of two 1973 LHS graduates, Billy Ray Coleman and Brenda Wells, both on hand for their 40-year reunion celebration.

Howdy Neighbor Day Saturday

The annual Howdy Neighbor Day, sponsored by Jena Colonial Trails Committee, will be staged in the Jena City Park this Saturday, Oct. 5th, with a full day of events on tap. The event is always held the day after homecoming at Jena High School to attract those returning home for the celebration, and for the entertainment of home folks.

Burn Ban in effect for several parishes

Due to the extremely dry conditions in certain parishes within Louisiana, State Fire Marshal H. Butch Browning and Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain have issued a cease and desist order for all private burning, pursuant to authority under R.S. 40:1563. Private burning shall only be allowed by permission of the local fire departments or local governments.

Project Lifesaver

LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Richard Smith and Chief Criminal Deputy Jimmy Arbogast practice using locaters and transmitters during a recent Project Lifesaver training session. Project Lifesaver International has recently partnered with the LPSO to provide a brand new electronic search and rescue service to locate citizens who tend to wander and become lost due to a cognitive condition such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, Autism and Down Syndrome. The LPSO is the first in the state to join with Project Lifesaver.

LHS Homecoming Friday

Johnny Chauvin and the Mojo Band will be the featured entertainers for the Olla Downtown Homecoming celebration this coming Saturday.
Dr. Sheila King, Principal of LaSalle High School, has announced that LHS Homecoming 2013 will take place at LHS this Friday, September 27, 2013. The 2013 Queen and her court will be presented during the morning program, which will take place in the LaSalle High School Gymnasium. The Alumni of the classes of Olla-Standard High School and LaSalle High School classes of 1953, 1963, 1973, 1983, 1993, 2003, and 2013 will be honored.
