A large crowd of parents and students attended the annual Parent Expo, held at Jena Elementary School on Thursday night of last week. The event is sponsored each year by the LaSalle Parish Title I Program, and involves parents and students from throughout the parish. Its purpose is to inform parents of what is offered in the school system, and provide resources and information to help their children achieve a quality education

Jena High Lady Giant powerlifters Bryttanye Erwin and Madison Erwin competed January 10th at the Louisiana State Championship in Lafayette. Bryttanye, a JHS senior, placed first in the 63 kilogram class, lifting a total of 370 kilograms (815.71 lbs).

The annual tree sale

The annual tree sale, sponsored by the LaSalle Soil and Water Conservation District, was held on Thursday of last week. Over 100 people crowded into the parking lot behind the LaSalle Parish Courthouse to make their selection and purchase a variety of trees suitable for planting in this area.

Olla Council addresses host of items

The Olla Town Council addressed a host of items up for discussion and decision at their regular meeting for January held Monday night of last week. It was the first meeting for the new town administration and the beginning of  the first full term of office for Mayor Rhonda Elliott. Jake Long joined returning council members Madge J. Bailey, Al Cassels, Joe Rachal, Jr., and Mark Richardson, to make up the Council.

School Board members take oaths Officers elected to serve during 2015

The LaSalle Parish School Board members unanimously re-elected Buddy Bethard of Jena (District 6) to serve a second year as President as well as electing Dawn Stott of Olla (District 1) as Vice-President for the 2015-16 year during the board’s regular January meeting held Monday night of last week.
