A grand opening

A grand opening ceremony for the new Jena Splash Pad will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 3, with a ribbon-cutting event. As soon as the brief ceremony is completed, the Splash Pad will open to the public. The newly constructed facility is located at the same site of the former Jena Swimming Pool, which was demolished last year to make way for the new feature.

Excellence in financial reporting

For the fifteenth year in a row, the business department of the LaSalle Parish School System has been awarded both the GFOA and ASBO “excellence in financial reporting” awards. The awards were presented for fiscal year 2011-12 and included the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) honors for Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada and for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

Contract for street work in Good Pine approved by Jury

The LaSalle Parish Police Jury, at their regular April meeting held Monday night of last week, approved a contract for street work in the Good Pine area. The work is being financed by a fiscal year 2013 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant that was awarded to the Jury. Bids on the street improvement project were opened on April 10th.

Olla officials accept park land donation

During the Town of Olla Council’s regular March meeting held Tuesday night of last week, Mayor Rhonda Elliott announced to the Council of a recent land donation to the town. She said that Southern Heritage Bank has graciously agreed to donate the park, which is located across from the bank on the corner of Central Avenue and Rosefield Road, to the town.

Jena Council approves new logo

The Jena Town Council approved a new logo for the town, which will be utilized to rebrand the community to reflect positive changes being made. The action came during the regular April meeting of the Council, held Tuesday night of last week.

Retail sales continue to improve

After ending year 2013 with record retail sales in LaSalle Parish, figures just released for the first three months of 2014 show that sales continue to climb as the new year unfolds. Retail sales for the first quarter of
2014 show very positive gains, with parish wide sales up by about 12.5-percent over the first three months of the previous year.
