Olla officials takes care of numerous business matters

The Olla Town Council addressed a host of items up for discussion and decision at their regular meeting for September. One of the issues addressed was in regard to the approval of a resolution and introduction of an ordinance. The Council approved the introduction of Ordinance 2015-005 as advised for release of easement for Lots 1-8 of Block 12 of Hardtner and Tannehill second addition of the town of Olla. The ordinance involves James and Temple Melder’s request to the town for the easement (property located behind NAPA and Express Lube) with plans for a mechianic shop.

Large number of candidates qualify for fall 2015 election

When voters in LaSalle Parish go to the polls on Saturday, October 24th, for the primary election, they will be choosing candidates in seventeen different races. When qualifying ended last Thursday afternoon, every statewide official had opposition, with two positions wide open – governor and lieutenant governor.

Cleve Womack candidate for State Representative

Cleve Womack has announced that he is a candidate for State Representative from District 20, subject to the action of voters in the district at the primary election on October 24th. In making his announcement, Womack issued the following statement to voters of the district: “I am a lifelong resident of Catahoula Parish, having lived in Manifest my entire life.

‘Back the Badge 2015’ program held at WUPC

Members of Whitehall United Pentecostal Church hosted its annual ‘Back the Badge 2015’ program last Thursday night with a capacity crowd of first responders on hand for the event. Rev. Joey Paul, pastor of the church, served as master of ceremonies and gave the welcome. He noted that for the past 19 years, Whitehall United Pentecostal Church has been proud to honor the men and women who wear the badge.

“Statewide day of prayer” for law enforcement slated

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has declared Monday, September 14 as a “statewide day of prayer” for law enforcement and encourage people to pray for law enforcement members across Louisiana and to thank law officers for their work. “Too often, we forget the sacrifice and commitment these brave men and women make on a daily basis in order to protect our families and uphold the peace in our communities,” Jindal said. “Our officers understand the real risk and responsibility that comes with this career and we are extremely grateful for their dedicated service.”

Louisiana Pecan Festival

2014-15 Louisiana Pecan Festival Teen Miss Queen Mallori Bell would like to invite all to attend the annual Louisiana Pecan Festival Beauty & Beau Pageant on Saturday, September 12 at the Grant Parish Civic Center on Hwy 8 East in Colfax, where she will crown the new Teen Miss Queen. LaSalle High School

LaSalle High School is sporting a brand new L.E.D. sign at its entrance due to the efforts of the Olla Kiwanis Club along with many area businesses and citizens. Standing underneath the new sign are: (left to right) LHS Principal Kara Masling, Olla Kiwanis Club members Bob Love, Ray Duke and Vice-President Jake Long, LHS Senior Ross Campbell, Teacher Stephanie Barnhill and Freshman Amber Snelling. The 5’x8’ sign mounted seven feet above ground is full color and video capable with wireless programming. “We appreciate the generosity and support of the Kiwanis Club especially with our new sign,” LHS Principal Masling said. “It’s definitely something we can be proud of and it adds to our Tiger Pride!” The Kiwanis Club is also currently working to construct a sign at LaSalle Junior High in Urania. The members of the Olla Kiwanis Club would like to extend their appreciation to all who helped make the sign a reality.

Candidates are qualifying

Qualifying for the fall 2015 election began Tuesday of this week and will continue through Thursday, September 10th. Many candidates have already announced their intentions of seeking re-election, or running for the first time and have been on the campaign trail for a while. The primary election is just six weeks away, slated for Saturday, October 24. Clerk of Court Steve D. Qualifying next week

Qualifying for the fall 2015 elections will be held next week and already many candidates have already announced their intentions and are on the campaign trail daily. The election is just over two months away.  Clerk of Court Steve D. Andrews, Chief Election Officer for LaSalle Parish, has announced qualifying dates, times and fees to be charged. The Clerk of Court’s office will accept qualifying papers from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, September 8-10.
