Dorothy “Dot” Francis

Dorothy Louise Francis, 59, of Whitehall, passed from this life on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at her residence in Whitehall.

She was born October 24, 1958 in Jonesville to the union of her parents, Ivy Jessie and Hattie Reeves Francis.

Dot was born a special person at the old hospital in Jonesville, though her family never knew the extent or diagnosis until later years. Down’s Syndrome and mental retardation were accepted, thinking she wouldn’t be living very long – but Dot would defy the odds.

Her education was short lived, first at Jena Elementary and then home schooling until she reached her max, which wasn’t long. Though she wasn’t capable of retaining a lot, she could pick through things to read a few words.

Especially her Bible – she underlined, highlighted, and copied so many and wanted to carry them all in her bag.
