Joseph Picard

Joseph “Joe” Picard, 79, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Jena Nursing and Rehab facility in Jena.

He was born February 1, 1938 to the union of his parents, Olive and Louis Picard in Franklin, Louisiana, and was baptized at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Franklin. He became a member of Midway Baptist Church, Jena in 2008.

Joe suffered polio as a child and a stroke at the age of 18. Even with these drawbacks, he began working for the St. Mary Parish School Board in 1977 as a custodian at Centerville. Joe moved with friends from Franklin to Olla, in 1989, following oil field and other odd jobs until his health deteriorated and he was no longer able to take care of himself.

Joe entered the LaSalle Nursing home in late 1999 and moved to Jena Nursing and Rehab (JNRH) in 2009. He never met a stranger and JNRH was his home and the residents were his family.

Ruth Marie Graham

Ruth Marie Graham, 87, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed from this life on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

She was born May 29, 1929 in Pittsburg, PA, to the union of her parents, Henry William and Nina Gongaware Wilson.

Mrs. Graham was a domestic housekeeper.

Funeral visitation was held Wednesday, April 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold Graham; her parents; son, Timothy Homer; brother, Ray Wilson; and sisters, Clara, Loine, Sandy, Judy, and Florence.

Survivors include her son, Mark Allen Graham of Midway; daughter, Robin Weir of Midway; brothers, George Wilson and Paul Wilson, both of Ellwood, PA; sisters, Helen Wiley of Ellwood, PA, Nina Wiley of Castlewood, PA, and Mary Ann Minter of Shenago, PA; three grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Billye B. Graham

Billye Bankston Graham, 78, of Nebo, passed from this life on Saturday, April 22, in Nebo.

She was born September 29, 1938 in Harrisonburg to the union of her parents, Owen and Clara Bankston.

Billye was a longtime active member of Nebo Baptist Church, and graduate of Harrisonburg High School. She was a homemaker, artist, floral designer, and animal lover.

She worked at many florist shops and designed and decorated a float for a Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, California.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 25, at Nebo Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Murrell officiating.

Interment followed in Graham Cemetery in the Nebo Community under direction of Griffin Funeral Home of West Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lila Mae Gaultreaux; and a granddaughter, Krystle Berry.

Rebecca Ann Cotten

Rebecca Ann Cotten, 60, of Harrisonburg, passed from this life on Saturday, April 15, 2017, in Harrisonburg.

She was born Sunday, November 25, 1956 in Pineville.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, at Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church near Jonesville with the Revs. Junior Cotten and Todd Tucker officiating.

Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery near Manifest under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ben Frank Morris; her mother, Pauline Stanfield Morris; husband, Talton Cotten; brother, Ben Monroe Morris; and sister-in-law, Martha Morris.

Onessia Anderson

Onessia Anderson, 93, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at the LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena.

She was born March 11, 1924 in Summerville to the union of her parents, Walter and Bernice Gough Cockerham.

Mrs. Anderson worked as nurse in the Head Start Program. She played softball until she was well into her forties and loved sports and hunting and fishing. She loved to garden and also loved to cook and make Christmas candies and fruit cakes.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Heath Harris, Kyle Robertson and Tyler Anderson officiating.

Interment followed in the Taylor’s Chapel Cemetery of Summerville under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

Jerry Nell Milton

Jerry Nell Miles Milton, 74, of Olla, passed from this life on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia Heights.

She was born June 30, 1942 in Urania to the union of her parents, Frayne and Jewel Weaver Miles.

Jerry Nell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olla. She loved her Sunday school class and worship music there.

Mrs. Milton’s greatest delight was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always a part of her grandchildren’s lives including all their activities. She loved cooking for her family and others.

She was a graduate of LaSalle High School where she earned the John Phillip Sousa Award as a clarinet player in the LHS band. She went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Business at Northeast Louisiana University, Monroe where she later worked to handle news releases for the college.

Jimmy LaCroix

James Arch “Jimmy” LaCroix, 62, of Trout, passed from this life on Saturday, April 15, 2017, in Alexandria.

He was born Tuesday, June 1, 1954 in Alexandria, to the union of Thomas Hugh LaCroix and Mary Ethel Tannehill LaCroix.

Jimmy was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. Kent Hatfield officiating.

Interment will follow in Hurricane Creek Cemetery in the White Sulphur Springs Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

Survivors include his son, Archie LaCroix; daughters, Bobbie Hatfield and husband Kent and Mary LaCroix, a sister, Joy Chapman; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tommy DeLaSalle, Chuck Whatley, Scott Stringer, Mary LaCroix, Landon Hatfield, Sean Brummett, and Brandon Bergeron.

Ashly Kaye Knight

Ashly Kaye Knight, 35, of Jena, passed from this life on Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

She was born October 27, 1981 in Natchez, Mississippi, to the family of Bob Douglas and Brenda Kaye Wiley Cooper.

Ashly was a member of Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church of Nebo and a hair stylist at First and Pine Salon in Jena.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 17, at Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church of Nebo with Rev. Bruce Thornton officiating.

Interment followed in the Summerville Cemetery at Summerville under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mick and Rosa Lee Wiley.

Jimmie W. Williams

Jimmie W. Williams, 86, of Somerville, Alabama, and a native of Good Pine, passed from this life on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at his home. Jimmie had recently moved to Alabama to be near his children but was a longtime resident of Jena.

He was born December 20, 1930 in Good Pine, to the union of his parents, Clifford “Pop” Williams and Doris “Munnie” Williams.

Jimmie was a graduate of Jena High School.

He worked for Halliburton for 30 years in Saudi Arabia, Bolivia, Argentina, Canary Islands, and Singapore. After returning home to Jena he worked at Hayes Lumber Company in Jena for many years.

Jimmie was a member of Justiss Memorial Methodist Church in Trout, and enjoyed gardening, cooking, woodworking, and computer graphics. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

Lorna “Kathy” White

Lorna Kathleen “Kathy” Robbins White, 62, of Jena, passed from this life and went home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 9, 2017.

She was born September 22, 1954 to the proud parents of Marshall Robbins and Ruby Stapleton Robbins.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, at East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Norris and Jason Robbins officiating.

Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah Community under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

She was welcomed home by her parents; her brother, Ricky Robbins; sister, Billie Robbins Bassett; and a grandbaby, Jayden Temple.
