Richard J. Wright

Richard James Wright, 49, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at his residence.

He was born February 24, 1968 in Pineville to his parents, Christine Dunn Wright and the late Jessie Ray Wright.

Richard was a member of New Evergreen Baptist Church of Jena.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 2, at New Evergreen Baptist Church of Jena with Bishop B. L. Moran officiating.

Interment followed in the Webster Cemetery of Good Pine under direction of Gayden Funeral Home of Jena.

Survivors include his wife, Sonya Wright; his mother, Christine Wright; two daughters, Christian Walker and Adrianna Walker; one son, Christopher Walker; one step-son, Keldric Nelson; two sisters, Jessica Dunn and Pamela Holmes; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Leroy Hardwell, Pat Cooper, Nook Kittlen, Mike Bowens, James Miles, Chad Butler, John Young, Talead Jenkins, and Laharrison Lee.

Marlene Andrews Poole

Marlene Andrews Poole, 84, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at her residence.

She was born February 6, 1933 in Jena to the union of her parents, Richard “Dick” and Ruth Jackson Andrews.

Mrs. Poole was a homemaker.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 3, at Aimoch Baptist Church in the Aimoch Community with the Revs. Bobby McGuire and Brandon Poole officiating.

Interment followed in the Randall Cemetery in the Aimoch Community under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Laevon S. Poole; brother, Joe E. Andrews; sons, Laevon Steve Poole, Jr. and Jackie Laevon Poole; daughter, Anita Poole and granddaughter, Marcie Swayze Koch.

Lillie Bell Mott

Lillie Bell Mott, 96, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania.

She was born May 4,1920 in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Mrs. Mott was a homemaker.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Church of God in Jonesville.

Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Howard Mott and Elmer Mott; daughter, Betty Coleman; two brothers and three sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Eva Jane Slay of Rhinehart; eight-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

John W. King

John W. King, 70, of Jena, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at his residence in Jena after a long battle with cancer.

John was a native of Alabama, born on December 11, 1946.

Best known as Mr. John or “Paw”, he loved fishing and wood working, but most of all he loved sitting on his porch visiting with his best buddies, Johnnie “Be Good” Porter and James Farrington.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Orlean King; and his cat, Bella.

John will be missed by many.

Mary Helen Kennedy

Mary Helen Kennedy, 73, of Jena, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017, in Jena.

She was born Monday, December 27, 1943 in Winnsboro, to the union of Carl and Audrey Ratcliff Dark.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Father Jason Goutee officiating.

Interment followed in the Taylor Chapel Cemetery at Summerville under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Carolyn Dark Driskill.

She is survived by her son, Randall Scott Taylor of Trout; daughter, Toni Inez Smith of Belah; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren
Pallbearers were Will Smith, Daniel Bohannon, Desmond Ratcliff, Samuel King, Layne Flaherty, and Chris Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Aymond and Ronald Bohannon.

Georgia Ruth Walden

Georgia Ruth Walden, 70, of Winnfield, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at her residence.

She was an accountant and worked for several years at Hennigan Law Offices in Jena and later at the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed arts and crafts.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 30, at Beulah Baptist Church near Georgetown with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating.

Mrs. Walden was the daughter of the late Tommy Eugene Walden and the late Willie Beatrice Martin. She was also preceded in death by brothers, John David Walden and Bobby Eugene Walden, as well as her sister, Sadie Walden.

“Lige” Robertson, Jr.

E. S. “Lige” Robertson, Jr., 78, of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at his residence.

He was born August 18, 1939 in Archie to the union of his parents, Elijah Sparks “Rob” and Nelle Ketchens Robertson.

“Lige” was a driller for the Grey Wolfe Oil Company. He loved to hunt, fish, garden and spend time with his grandkids.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 24, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Craig James and Bobby McGee officiating.

Interment followed in the Tidwell Landing Cemetery in Nebo under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his son, Darrin Anthony Robertson; sister, Sue Robertson Poole; and his parents.

Flora Mae White

Flora Mae White, 83, passed from this life on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at the LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena.

She was born December 31, 1933 to the union of her parents, Allen and Leona Book.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 25, at Mayna Church of God of Jonesville with the Revs. Lloyd Trisler and Bryan Taylor officiating.

Interment followed in Whites Cemetery of Jonesville under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl White, Sr.; sisters, Audrey Mooreland, Rosalie Miller, Edith Book and Lois White; brothers, Jerry Book, Sr. and Arnold “Brother” Book; and a special sister-in-law, Janie Book.

Ronald Lee Lewellyan

The Honorable Judge Ronald L. Lewellyan, 71, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at his home in Columbia.

He was born on May 1, 1946 in Columbia to the union of Janie Marteal Lee and Ezzie Roosevelt Lewellyan.

Ronnie was in the first graduating class from Caldwell Parish High School in 1964. He went on to attend Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, Louisiana to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-Law and to earn his Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University Law School in December, 1971. He began practicing law in 1972 with the firm Burns and Lewellyan which was later renamed McKeithen, Burns and Lewellyan when former Governor John McKeithen joined the firm. Ronnie also served as Caldwell Parish Assistant District Attorney for three years. In 1978, he became the youngest district court judge in the state of Louisiana at age 31. He served as the judge for the 37th Judicial District from 1978 until his retirement in 2002.

James Ainsworth

James Hayden Ainsworth, 80, was transformed to glory on Tuesday, November 21, 2017.

Hayden, or “Slim”, as he was known to many, was born in Walters on December 28, 1936.

Hayden loved to fish at any time with his favorite fishing buddy, Gregory LaCroix. He worked for over 50 years in the oil field, meeting one of his lifetime friends, Wesley Otwell. He served in the National Guard in the 300 71st DC Company at Camp Beauregard, LA.

He has been the “great coffee drinking, solving all the world’s problems, kind of friend” that any person could ask for. One of his favorite things was joking and picking on all his nieces. You never knew what he would do or say next. It’s been told that he wore out a shotgun hunting ducks with his cousin, Shelby Masters.
