Kathryn “Kathy” Nugent Roberts

Kathryn “Kathy” Nugent Roberts, 64, of Winnfield, passed from this life on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at her home. She was born April 4, 1954 in Urania to the union of her parents, Gerald and Aline Nugent. She was the oldest of five children. Kathy was a retired registered nurse, who spent her career working for Hardtner Medical Center in Urania and for twelve years at Rapides Home Health, where she not only provided care for her patients but genuinely cared for them as well. First and foremost, she was a wife and mother who loved her family. To her family and friends, she was simply “Kathy”. Kathy grew up in Urania and was a 1972 graduate of LaSalle High School and received her degree in Nursing from LSU at Alexandria in 1982. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, in the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla. Interment followed in the Urania Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

Jerry Warren Lloyd

Jerry Warren Lloyd, 62, of Trout, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 in Shreveport following a brief illness. He was born March 14, 1956 in Jena to the union of his parents, Rev. Walter and Dixie Lloyd. Jerry was a bright spirited soul and was loved by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed hog hunting, deer hunting and duck hunting with his father. He was an avid horse rider and loved to read as well. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Brandon Poole and Mickey Hudnall officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Greg Lloyd; and a brother-in-law, Ed McClure.

Donald James Mason

Donald James Mason, 70, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 16, 1948 in Newburg, Missouri. Don served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971. He was a sergeant in the combat security police during the time of the Pueblo Crisis in Korea and Vietnam. He was retired from CenturyLink. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Miller Cemetery in Nebo, with the Revs. Brandon Poole and Gary Norris officiating. Interment followed with full military honors under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas Mason and Wilma Louise Stogsdill Mason King and a sister, Bonnie Heath. Those left to cherish in his memory include his wife, Patsy Hudnall Mason; son, James Thomas Mason and wife Jennifer; granddaughter, Jessey Mikayla Mason; sister, Joanne Pemberton and husband David; and family friend Sarah Davis.

Johnny Neal

Johnny Neal, 77, of the Belah Community, passed from this life on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. He was born June 1, 1941 in Old River, LA. Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Revs. Ron Nations, Jeff Sandifer, and Zack Wells officiating. Interment will follow in the Pritchard Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Neal; his mother, Peggy Rosier; brother, Butch Neal; and sister, Ethlyn Richey. Those left to cherish in his memory include his wife of 54 years, Christine Hudspeth Neal of Belah; son, Kenneth Neal of Trout; daughter, Connie West and husband Scott of Addis, LA; sister, Nona Farmer of Belah; two grandchildren, Cody Smith, and Calee Smith; three great grandchildren, Thatcher Smith, Edith Smith, and Grayson Dauzart.

Donnie C. Stewart

Donnie C. Stewart, 65, passed from this life on Monday, October 22, 2018, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Catahoula Cemetery of Enterprise with Rev. Stacy Pittman officiating. Interment followed under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Field Stewart and Ethel Lucille Foster Stewart; brother, Herman Stewart; nephews, Tommy Adams and Jimbo Stewart; and niece, Carrie Stewart. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Jared Stewart and wife Hannah; two grandchildren, Kaleb and Ashlyn; brothers, James Stewart and wife Sherry, Buck Stewart and wife Donna, George Stewart and wife Sherry and Richard Stewart and wife Bonnie; sisters, Joyce Bratton and Norma Adams and husband Pete; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Archie Baum

Archie Baum, 85, of Olla, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at the Citizens Medical Center of Columbia. He was born March 6, 1933 in Olla to the union of his parents, Tom and Rose Baum. Archie was an Army veteran and loved to tell stories. His favorite story to tell was the one about how he met the love of his life, Jean. A private family service is being planned. He was preceded in death by his parents and his eight brothers, Calvin Baum, Huey Baum, Houston Baum, George “G.A.” Baum, R. B. Baum, James Baum, Carl Baum and Duey Baum. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of almost 65 years, Irma Jean Baum; and a host of nieces and nephews. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Christina Irene Phelps

Christina Irene Phelps, 50, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the Jena Nursing and Rehab Center in Jena. She was born June 24, 1968 in Alexandria to the union of Elvin Ray and Betty Irene Phelps. Christina was a member of Standard Baptist Church. She was beautiful inside and out and loved helping other people. She loved her family, her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Standard Baptist Church near Olla with Rev. Shad Tibbs officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah Community near Jena under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her father, Elvin Ray Phelps.

Elizabeth “Libby” Jarvis Lockey

Elizabeth “Libby” Jarvis Lockey, 52, of Pineville, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in Alexandria. Libby was born on February 20th, 1966. She graduated from Bolton High School in 1984 and continued on later in life to receive a Bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University of Alexandria with a degree in nursing. She was a registered nurse for 16 years, and she was admired by all of her patients and coworkers. She was employed at Central Louisiana Surgical Hospital. Libby was a beautiful, selfless woman. She had a contagious laugh and lit up every room with her smile. Libby was always the life of the party and spent her extra time making everybody laugh. She enjoyed being with her daughters, having fun with her friends, spending time in New Orleans and was at peace sitting on the beach listening to the waves. She took pride in her job and was known by many as the best nurse around. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had an immense faith in her heavenly Father.

David E. Johnson

David E. Johnson, 78, of Maurice, passed from this life on Saturday, October 20, 2018. He was born August 17, 1940 in Jennings to the union of his parents, D.D. and Vera Johnson. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a former local math teacher. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Heard Cemetery owith Rev. Brandon Poole and Rev. Rod Jackson officiating. Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish in his memory include two sons, David Chris Johnson and wife Tina of Natchitoches and John Johnson and wife Alida of Youngsville and grandchildren Lisa, Sarah, Matthew, Daniel and Caleb.

Ruby T. Streetman

Ruby Taylor Streetman, 90, of Jena, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at her home, surrounded by family.
She was born July 29, 1928 in Glenmora, to the union of Benjamin and Lessie Rambo Taylor.
Mrs. Streetman was a housewife and mother who enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Gallagher Funeral Home in Ball with Rev. Lyndon Marcotte officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Streetman; her parents; one daughter, Alicia Streetman; two sons, Johnny Wayne Streetman and Bobby L. Streetman; sisters, Alicia Mitchum, Juanita Macek, Hattie Hamm and Marjorie Duncan; and one brother, William Taylor.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Dyer of Jena, Donna Grimm and husband John Sid, of Jena, Shirlene Streetman of Tallahassee, FL and Sabrina Harrington of Jena; one son, Curtis Streetman and wife Marie of Pineville; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
