Michael ‘Mikie’ Butler

Michael “Mikie” Shayne Butler, 38, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Monday, January 29, 2018, from injuries he sustained in a traffic accident near Tallulah. He was born May 31, 1979 in Natchez, Mississippi. Mikie was employed by Chess Oil Services of Jonesville. He was formerly employed by Catahoula Correctional Center in Harrisonburg, but worked in the oilfield industry for the majority of his life. Mikie always had a smile on his face. He loved to deer hunt and spend time with his family, especially his sons and grandson. Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Sandy Lake Pentecostal church in the Sandy Lake Community of Catahoula Parish with the Revs. Chris Hamilton and Joel Ford officiating. Interment followed in the Hamilton Cemetery at Aimwell under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Butler; brother, Billy Joe Butler; grandson, Jason Rollins; and paternal grandfather, Son Hardie.

Merle A. Childress

Merle Allbritton Childress, 87, of Columbia, and formerly of Tullos, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 31, 2018 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia with her devoted husband at her side. Merle, affectionately known as Mamaw Merle, was born on August 5,1930 in Bayou Chicot, LA to the union of Wheeler A. Allbritton and Barbara Nugent Allbritton. She grew up in Tullos, and graduated from Urania High School. She met Gerald, the love of her life, at Springhill Baptist Church and they were married for 67 years. She was a dedicated Christian and prayer warrior, a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a long time member of Columbia Heights Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, served on various committees and taught Sunday School for over 50 years.

Julia Faye Green

Julia Faye Green, 78, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. She was born Monday, January 29, 1940 in Winnfield, to the union of her parents, Julian “Mack” McCartney and Mary Inez Strange McCartney. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, at Beulah Baptist Church near Georgetown with the Revs. Lamar Carpenter and Joe Bruce officiating. Interment followed in the Beulah Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donnis A. Green; and brother-in-law, Thomas L. Roberts. Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Mary Roberts; sister-in-law, Gloria Barrett (Joe); nephew, Jack Barrett; and niece, Susie Lucky. Pallbearers were Mike Roberts, Richie King, Jack Barrett, Joel Bruce, Johnny Hodges, and Richard Maxwell. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Barrett, Colby Barrett, and W. C. Hollaway

Jeffrey Alan Fowler

Jeffrey Alan Fowler, 40, of Jena, passed from this life on Friday, February 2, 2018 in Jena. He was born November 22, 1977 in Shreveport to the union of his parents, Johnny Mack and Judy Nell Chapman Fowler. Jeffrey was a high school graduate and was employed as an off-shore gally hand. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Bobbie Fowler, and O. D. and Ruby Chapman. Survivors include his parents, Judy and Mack Fowler; and two brothers, Jody Fowler and wife Marcie and Chris Fowler and wife Lynn. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 9, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. Brandon Poole officiating. A reception with the family will be held at the funeral home following the service

Annie Myrle Harris

Annie Myrle Harris, 91, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at the LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena. She was born December 8, 1926 in Blade to the union of her parents, John Elve and Francis Cecile Tatlor Smith. Mrs. Harris worked at Jena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in the laundry department. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Kent Hatfield officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Shelton Neal Harris and Kenneth Keith “Cooter” Harris; and sisters, Vernon Meadows, Alma Golden, and Bernice Chevallier. Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Malcomb Waldon Harris of Wisner and Derwin Dee Harris of Jena; daughter, Delba Lynn Hudnall of Jena; nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

James L. Carroll

James Lee Carroll, 79, of Olla, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, after a sudden and unexpected illness. The beloved patriarch of the Carroll family, James Lee was known to friends as “JL” and to his grandkids as J’s. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 37 years, Ilene Carroll, in December of 2017. Born in Clarks, and a native of Olla, James Lee attended Northwestern State University, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music, and then furthered his education with a Master’s degree and +30 in education from Northeast Louisiana. James Lee started playing music at a very early age and began his music career while in college by leading a local jazz band in Natchitoches and interning in various Louisiana high schools. His career continued as a music director at LaSalle High School in Olla, various high schools in the surrounding area, and the First Baptist Church Choir. A celebration of his life was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb.

Charles Virgil Dosher

Charles Virgil Dosher, 64, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Sunday, January 28, 2018 in Jonesville. He was born July 26, 1953 in Alexandria to the union of his parents, Benjamin Quinton and Ruth Wiley Dosher. Charles was a Lock Master at the Jonesville Lock and Dam and worked for the Corps of Engineers for almost 40 years. Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, at Birds Creek Baptist Church near Harrisonburg with the Revs. Jack Knapp, Mike Boyd and Jonathan Tucker officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carol Cotton Dosher of Jonesville; son, Brad Dosher of Jonesville; brother, Ben Dosher and wife Janice of Jena; and granddaughter, Harlee Lynn Dosher. Serving as pallbearers were Marty Owens, Ralph Campbell, Mickey Gresham, Bennie Ramsey, Donnie Bordenbaum, and Myles McMillin.

Tessa Leann Hendrix

Tessa Leann Hendrix, 44, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 2, 2018. She had been battling Stage 4 colon cancer since October 31, 2017. She was born August 26, 1973 to the union of her parents, Gary and Lennie Hatten. Tessa was a member of Outreach Baptist Church and worked part time at Haven Rehabilitation Center where she was a Cota. She was blessed with a wonderful family where she had three loving sons, Cole, Cameron and Cohen. Tessa loved the Lord with all her heart-soul and loved to tell everyone about Jesus. Tessa was loved by many, as to know her was to love her and she will be greatly missed. Her smile was contagious and brightened the room wherever she went. She had a heart of gold and loved to help anyone out in any way she could. Tessa had a real passion for seeking the lost and spreading God’s word. Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5, at Outreach Baptist Church, west of Columbia, with the Revs. C. R.

Jimmy Allen Kelly, Jr.

Jimmy Allen Kelly, Jr., 58, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, January 29, 2018, at his residence in Jena. He was born November 12, 1959. Memorial services were held at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He is survived by his father, Jimmy Allen Kelly, Sr. of Jena; brother, Steven Kelly of Midland, TX; sisters, Tammy Deason of Trout and Patsy Taylor of Jonesville; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Kelly; and niece, Lexy Kelly. The family request any memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Wetona Joy Kees Peters

Wetona Joy Kees Peters, 98, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on December 8, 2017. She was born August 26, 1919 to the union of her parents, Isham and Lizzie Mae Kees. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Wetona was preceded in death by her husband James G. “Bud” Peters; her parents; her siblings, O’Neal Kees, Richard Kees, Lois Greer, Betty Ruth McClary, and Joyce Addy; and her two daughters, Naomi Calhoun and Marion Brown. She is survived by her sister, Janie Vincent of Colleyville, TX; her daughter, Peggy Kleven of Friendswood, TX; her grandchildren, Bobby Calhoun of Louisiana, Trent Brown and wife Karen of Waco, TX, Clint Brown and wife Beth Ann of Kerrville TX, Stephanie Sammons of Friendswood, TX and Kristin Kleven of Palm Bay, FL; great grandchildren Stephen Kleven, MacKenzie Sammons, Caroline Brown, Cameron Brown, Caden Brown and Easton Brown
