William Hill Coleman

William Hill Coleman, 88, of Olla, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria.

He was born March 17, 1929 in Sicily Island to the union of his parents, John and Ada Punchard Coleman.

Mr. Coleman was a devoted husband, a good daddy and loving father. He was a strong, kind man who lived for the Lord. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 1, at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with Bro. Willie Cripps officiating.

Interment followed in the Wilbanks Cemetery near Summerville under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three daughters, Geneva Lou Collins, Audrey Jewel Coleman Long and Mary Elaine Coleman; two grandchildren, Cherie Coleman and Milton Long; and several brothers and sisters.

John Edward Bradford

John Edward Bradford, 63, of Natchitoches and formerly of Jena, passed from this world on to glory, gaining his crown of righteousness on Monday, March 27, 2017.

He was born November 6, 1953 in Jena to the union of his parents, John Alvin and Mary Elizabeth Edwards Bradford.

John loved the Lord, and he loved people, especially his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. John died just as he lived, with kindness, honor, and dignity, his family loved and provided for, and his affairs in order.

Throughout his life, his illness, and especially during his last days on this earth, John was continuously in the midst of his loving family and friends, and with no pain or suffering, passed peacefully at home, according to his wishes.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 31, at Pritchard Baptist Church on Old River with the Revs. Carl Gulde and Terry Doughty officiating.

Deloris Davis Smith

Deloris Davis Smith, 70, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at her residence in Jena.

She was born August 22, 1946 in Jena.

Ms. Smith worked for Uncle Alberts of Jena and Jonesville for ten years and owned Fausto’s Fried Chicken in Coushatta, for seven years. She also worked for Mid-State Home Health of Jena and Alexandria for several years.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, at Whitehall Pentecostal Church in Whitehall with the Revs. Joey Paul and Beau Manasco officiating.

Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Davis and Marie Taylor; her brother-inlaw, John W Bailey; and grandson, Brady Coldiron.

Mildred Iona Kirl

Mildred Iona Kirl, 88, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, March 20, 2017, at LaSalle General Hospital of Jena.

She was born May 30, 1928 in Jena to the union of her parents, Ted and Mary Elezene Smith Coleman.

Mrs. Kirl was employed at a daycare and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Jena.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 23, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Ricky Gresham and Lane Corley officiating.

Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

Survivors include her son, Tracy B. Kirl and wife Malyndia of Prosper, TX; daughter, Runia Stanley and husband Harold of Silsbee, TX; sister, Airlea Taylor of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Angela Gresham, Colin Strother, and Jason Monzingo; great grandchildren, Hannah, Sam, Ava, Cruze and Owen.

Alson Doyle Hudson

Alson Doyle Hudson, 87, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his residence.

He was born December 2, 1929 in Jena to Brazzie Hudson.

Mr. Hudson attended local schools and entered the United States Army when he was only 17-years-old, during the Korean conflict. He served in the Army for 20 years before retiring in 1968 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

He went on to become licensed in Tuscon, Arizona as a Mobile Home Broker and then as a Real Estate Agent owning Gina’s Property Management Company with his wife/partner, Gina Hudson for many years.

David O’Neal Hatten

David O’Neal Hatten, 48, of Olla, passed from this life on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria following a sudden illness.

He was born August 10, 1968 in Natchez, MS to the union of his parents, O’Neal Hatten and Geraldine Gilliam Hatten.

David was loved by all who knew him and he will be sorely missed.

Services will be at 12-noon on Thursday, March 30, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla.

Interment will follow at the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Gardner under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

Jimmy Ray Eubanks

Jimmy Ray Eubanks, 85, of Urania, passed from this life on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena.

He was born November 29, 1931 in Kelly to the union of his parents, John Calvin Eubanks and Mary Ella Riser Eubanks.

Mr. Eubanks served his country in the United States Air Force for twenty years retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant and after his military years he became a special agent with United States Customs serving for twenty-two years. He was an avid sportsman loving camping along with hunting and fishing.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 24, at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with the Revs. E. R. Johnson and Clay Hutto officiating.

Interment with full military honors followed in the Pine Hill Cemetery of Urania with burial under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Iris Evonne Eubanks; and a son, Nick Eldon Eubanks.

Vera Chevallier

Vera Chevallier, 95, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Hardtner Medical Center in Urania.

She was born August 18, 1921 in Walters to the union of her parents, Joe and Annie Sanson Chevallier.

Mrs. Chevallier was employed in the cafeteria at Jena Junior High School for many years.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 24, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Oliver Dean and Jimmy Keene officiating.

Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tracie Chevallier; and her parents.

Jamie Renee Bates

Jamie Renee Bates, 31, of Trout, passed from this life on Friday, March 17, 2017 in Good Pine.

She was born January 23, 1986 in Alexandria.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, at Sanctuary Family Worship Center in Jena with the Revs. Jimmy Young and Heath Harris officiating.

Interment followed in the Tidwell Landing Cemetery of Nebo under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

Survivors include her son, Isaiah Dewayne Todd; father, James H. Bates, III, mother; Angela Cater and husband Lonnie Cater; brothers, Landon Kale Cater, Coley Brandon Cater and Brandon Bates; sisters, Brittany Danielle Bates, Sara Leigh Ann Brock, Megan Nicole Bates, Brandie Bates, Misty Herron and Selena Bates.

Serving as pallbearers were Dale Overstreet, Jr., Jay Meadows, Justin Waldron, Danny Campbell, Joe Kimball and Lance Brown, with Nathan Brock serving as an honorary pallbearer.

A. C. Riggs

A. C. Riggs, 90, of the Packton Community, passed from this life on Thursday, March 16, 2017.

He was born December 20, 1926 to the union of his parents, Arch and Bessie Riggs, and was a lifelong resident of Grant Parish.

Mr. Riggs was a graduate of Selma High School and a veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific. His career with Penrod Drilling Company spanned many years in the oil field. Upon retirement, he established Riggs Enterprises, Inc. and worked as a drilling consultant.

During stints between jobs, he returned to his farm where he enjoyed growing vegetables and maintaining an orchard, which became his full time job upon final retirement. Mr. Riggs served as deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Winnfield.
