Lillie Mae Cagle

Lillie Mae Alberter Cagle, 85, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her family.

She was born December 8, 1931 in Jonesville, the second of four daughters born to George Joseph and Myrtle Mae Sparks Alberter.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at Patton Baptist Church of Jonesville, where she was an original and lifetime member, with Rev. Juan McClure officiating.

Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery near Manifest under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse A. Cagle; sons, Jesse Wayne Cagle and wife Linda, and James “Duck” Cagle; oldest grandson, Michael Wayne Cagle; youngest grandson, Logan Dewayne Mills; granddaughter, Kristy Mills; son-in-law, David E. Bryant; and sisters, Marie Smith and Mildred Spann.

Kent Ketten

Kent Ketten, 80, of Urania, passed from this life on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Pineville.

He was born February 29, 1936 in Belleville, Illinois, to the union of his parents, Maurice and Inez Mulkey Ketten.

Kent, along with his brother, followed in the footsteps of his father and joined the Navy as a young man. He was an Electrician Mate on the destroyer, U.S.S. Blue (DD-744) during the Korean War.

He was a faithful member of the Urania Pentecostal Church. He had many friends there and he loved his church family dearly. Kent was a loving, supportive father and outstanding role-model who led by example. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Urania Pentecostal Church in Urania with Rev. Clay Hutto officiating.

Interment followed in the Urania Cemetery in Urania under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

James T. Coker

James Thomas Coker, 90, of Saline, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the Jackson Parish Hospital in Jonesboro after a lengthy stay.

He was born November 12, 1926 in Harrisonburg to the union of William and Irene Montpelier Coker.

Mr. Coker served in the United States Navy as a medic in World War II, and received the Purple Heart in the line of duty to his country. He worked in the logging woods for many years, was an avid fisherman and loved to listen and go to blue grass music festivals.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at Squires Cemetery near Summerville with the Revs. David Walsworth and Roy Lowery officiating.

Interment followed under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Jean Corley Coker; oldest son, Thomas Ray Coker; and his parents.

Ray Edward King

Ray Edward King, 72, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, February 12, 2017, in West Monroe.

He was born January 26, 1945 in Lake Garfield, Florida, to the union of his parents, Wilmer and Rosie Skipper King.

Ray worked in the construction industry as a heavy equipment operator. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Arrangements were under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his sons, Jonathan King and wife Teresa of Jena and Dustin King and wife Betty of Mangham; daughter, Desiree King of Mangham; brothers, Albert Doyle King and wife Betty of Jacksonville, FL and Joe Ray King and wife Kitty of Winterhaven, FL; sister, Gerry Deal and husband Kenneth of Oak Harbor, OH; and grandchildren, Dakota King, Adam Benoit, Logan King, Anna Lusk and Savannah King.

Ronda McKeithen

Ronda Wooten McKeithen, 53, of Monroe, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in Monroe.

She was born November 18, 1963 in Winnfield to the union of her parents, Charles and Wanda Williams Wooten.

Ronda was a caregiver that was selfless in giving to her family, friends and those she treated at her work as an ICU nurse. She was an adventurer who had sass and was bossy when needed.

Wootie was a fun person who had the ability to make anyone and everyone she met laugh. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and music. She was the best mother to her children and deeply loved by her family and friends.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 4 from the sanctuary of Beulah Baptist Church near Georgetown with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating.

Interment followed at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla/Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, A.J. McKeithen.

R. J. Bordelon

R. J. Bordelon, 65, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at his home.

He was born Friday, February 1, 1952.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 20, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in the Sandy Lake Community with Rev. Craig James officiating.

Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Willie Wilbert Bordelon; and his mother Delia Wiley Bordelon Cupit.

Bennie Carl Brewer

Bennie Carl Brewer, 81, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at his residence.

He was born August 2, 1935 in Manifest to the union of his parents, Floyd Mathis and Stella Ingram Brewer.

Bennie was self-employed for many years as a butcher.

Services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Jimmy Keene and Zach Wells officiating.

Interment followed in the Big Creek Cemetery of Dry Prong under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Verden Brewer.

Clyde Vanantwerpen

Clyde Wayne Vanantwerpen, 69, of Panama City, Florida, and formerly of Olla, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 08, 2017 at Panama City Nursing Home and Rehab Center.

He was born November 24, 1947 to the union of his parents, Clyde Albert and Maudell Wainwright Vanantwerpen.

During his working life he was employed in the Oil Field.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Olla Cemetery in Olla.

Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his sister, Gwen Green of Fountain, Florida; and her daughter, Debbie Dahdah and a host of other relatives and friends.

James H. Tooke

James Harold Tooke, 84, of Kenner, and formerly of Jena, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 7, 2017.

He was born December 29, 1932 in Ringgold to the union of Virgie Chloe Corley Tooke and Henry Seward Tooke.

James graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (Louisiana Tech.) in 1957 with degrees in Civil Engineering and Land Surveying.

He was stationed at the U.S. Army Base in Yuma, AZ where their daughter Debbie was born. Mark was born in Shreveport in early 1960. Later that year, the Tookes moved to Jena, and set up their small business, Tooke Land Surveying, which they owned and operated there until 2002.

James was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1961 and served as a congregation elder in the Jena, the Olla and the Central Kenner Congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
