Steve L. Mills

Steve L. Mills, 76, of Haverhill, MA, and a former resident of LaSalle Parish, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at Wingate Nursing Home in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Columbia, LA on January 20, 1940, the son of the late Mick and Eunice LaCroix Mills.

Steve was raised and educated in Louisiana. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 until 1961 and was honorably discharged. He then enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1961 until 1964 and was honorably discharged. Steve was especially proud of his son Jeffrey for serving in the U.S. Army and retiring from the military.

Steve was employed by the City of Haverhill as a Lieutenant in the Haverhill Fire Department for 34 years. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, walking in the woods, spending time at the beach and he was an avid reader. Steve loved his family and he treasured time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.


Carrol “Pop” Posey

Carrol Ray “Pop” Posey, 69, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

He was born September 11, 1947 in Jonesville to the union of his parents, Homer Henry Posey and Ethel Lozer Ashley Posey.

“Pop” had various occupations during his life, working as a logger and commercial fisherman and in his later years he owned a gravel truck. He was also a family man who loved to have fun, fishing, camping, and hunting.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, at Trinty Baptist Church, east of Jena, with the Revs. Mike Russell and Edward D. Sharp officiating.

Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery near Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Sharp and great grandchild, Jason.


Anna Regina Burgess

“A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam. And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world. But then it flies on again, and though we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it.”

It is with great sadness and sorrow that Gawan and Sherrie Burgess announce the passing of their daughter, Anna Regina Burgess.

Anna was born November 30, 1997 and passed away on November 30, 2016.

Anna graduated from Jena High School and had plans to pursue her medical degree in Homeopathic and Alternative Medicine.

All relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Anna on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Jena.

Pastor Jimmy Keene will officiate at the service.


Mary Mims Clark

Mary Mims Clark, 83, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016.

She was born Friday, September 15, 1933 in Winnfield, Louisiana, to the union of her parents, Otis and Purla Eva Sanders Harper.

Mrs. Clark and her husband Melvin were very active members of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, for many years. Melvin and Mary followed the board runs and derrick lights from Southeast Texas, Louisiana, and South Mississippi while Melvin worked for Sid Richurson and Perry Bass Drilling and Justiss and Mears Drilling, as well as years in oilfield service industry for SWACO and later Dresser Industries.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 2, at Calvary Baptist Church, west of Tullos, with Rev. Dick DeBusk officiating.

Interment followed on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ball under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.


Margaret Idella Barker

Margaret Idella Barker, 70, of Trout, passed from this life on Sunday, January 1, 2017.

She was born September 4, 1946 in Alexandria to the union of her parents, Paul Edwin Daigrepont and Mary Agnes Andries Daigrepont.

Mrs. Barker was a loving mother. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with her best friend, Faye, and loved traveling. Above everything else Mrs. Margaret loved her Lord and praised Him in all things. Anybody she came in contact with knew this and loved her for it.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Pritchard Baptist Church in the Old River Community with the Revs. Terry Doughty and Keith Fitzgerald officiating.

Interment will follow in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah-Fellowship Community under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dale Barker; son, Steven Douglas; sister, Jennette Terral; and her parents.


Robin Clauss

Robin Hynds Clauss, 65, of Jena, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at her residence.

She was born September 24, 1951 in Los Angeles, California to the union of her parents, Thomas and Barbara Kyle Hynds.

Robin was a registered nurse and office manager for Clauss Chiropractic Center in Jena, operated by her and her husband, Charles D. Clauss, DDC. The family has been residents of Jena for the past 35 years.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 31, in the East Jena Baptist Church with Revs. Gary Norris and Buddy Willis officiating.

Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her father, and a brother Gary Hynds.


Gloria Ann Grant

Gloria Ann Barnhill Grant, 71, of Columbia, passed from this life on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at her residence following a brief illness.

She was born November 17, 1945 at Epps to the union of her parents, Marvin Edward Barnhill and Arletha Lingefelt Barnhill.

Mrs. Grant and her husband were co-owners of Grant Wrecker Service in Columbia. Gloria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Gloria was loved by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3, from the sanctuary of Cross Roads Baptist Church west of Grayson with Rev. Shane Duke officiating.

Interment followed in the Old Bethel Cemetery, west of Clarks, under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.


Audrey Inez Keene

Audrey Inez Bignar Keene went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 25, 2016 in Jena.

She was born June 22, 1925 in Nebo to the union of her parents, William Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Hudnall Bignar.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, in the East Jena Baptist Church with the Revs. Johnnie Phillips and Gary Norris officiating.

Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee “Bud” Keene; her parents; a daughter, Ellen Janet Keene Oswalt and her husband H. L. Oswalt; a son-in-law, Paul “Tony” Long; her granddaughter, Jeanie Lynn Long; three sisters, Georgia Bignar Cannon, Laverne Bignar Cannon, and Jimmie Bignar Doughty; three brothers, Leon Bignar, Leland Bignar, and John “Tote” Bignar.


Jim Arbogast, Jr.

James “Jim” William Arbogast, Jr., 74, of Tullos, passed away peacefully at his home on December 23, 2016.
He was born on September 12, 1942 in Centerville, Iowa, to his parents James William Arbogast, Sr. and Mable Irene Arbogast.
Jim spent most of his life in Tullos, after moving with his parents at the age of 12. He was known to many as Big Jim. Some may say it was because he was a mountain of a man at 6’6”, but if you ever met him you would know it was because of his larger than life personality and huge heart.
Jim never let a day go by without smiling and making sure he made others smile too. Jim, known to his family as Poppy, was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to all who was instantly loved by everyone who ever met him.

Rachel Inez Lincecum

Rachel Inez Lincecum, 72, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Grace Home in Alexandria.

She was born August 19, 1944 in Jena to the union of her parents, Ray Harrison and Bessie Magdeline Sanders Hudson.

Mrs. Lincecum was a homemaker. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 16, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating.

Interment followed in the Lincecum Cemetery of Georgetown under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Lincecum; her parents; and a great grandson, Braxton Fussell.

Survivors include her sons, Charles “Chuck” Fussell of Woodworth, Keith Fussell of Georgetown, Chris Fussell of Tyler, TX, Kraig Fussell of Pineville, DeWayne Lincecum of Tullos and Darryl Lincecum of Shreveport; daughter, Rose Lincecum of Destin, FL; 21 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
