Ann Nethery Talley

Edith Ann Nethery Talley, 81, of Olla, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia Heights, following an extended illness. She was born October 27, 1934 in Olla to the union of her parents, Wilbur P. Nethery and Edith Brandin Nethery. Ann was a member of the Pinewood Garden Club in Olla and avid Bridge player. She loved flower gardening and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Olla. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 4, from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Olla with Rev. Greg Dunn officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia/Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Stephen Kyle Talley; her daughter, Mauri Ann Talley; her brother, Glen Nethery; and her sisters, Wilma Raye Zeagler and Betty Jo McDonald.

Carole Lea Kirtland

Carole Lea Wallace Kirtland, 74, of Pollock and formerly of Trout, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in Pollock. She was born in Urania, March 12, 1942, to the union of Buster Wayne and Emma Falice (Roark) Wallace. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 6, in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah Community with Rev. Johnnie Phillips officiating. Interment followed under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Wallace and Robert Wallace; and a son-in-law, Patrick Hebert, Jr. Survivors include three daughters, DeAnn Hebert, Robin Hartranft and David Stanfield, all of Ville Platte, and Brenda Ackerman and husband John of Pollock; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were John Ackerman, Dallas Kirtland, Emily Ackerman, Glynn Kirtland, Tabitha Ameen and Samuel Ameen.

Jimmie B. Doughty

Jimmie Faye Bignar Doughty, 79, of Farmington, Arkansas, and a native of LaSalle Parish, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR. She was born January 22, 1937 in Jena to the union of her parents, William Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Hudnall Bignar. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 9, in the chapel of Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove, AR. Interment was in the Tidwell Landing Cemetery near Nebo, under arrangements by Luginbuel Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and sisters. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, the Rev.

Oliver ‘Ollie’ Boyd

Oliver “Ollie” Boyd, 85, a native of Jena and resident of Jackson, Louisiana, passed from this life on Friday, May 20, 2016. Ollie was the retired owner of Southern Inspection Services and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Services where held at 1 p.m., Monday, May 23, at the Second Baptist Church in Jackson with Rev. Clark Fooshe, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. He was preceded in death by step-sons, Raymond Tyler and Michael Tyler; parents, Lillie and Jeff Boyd; brothers, Chan Boyd, Tommy Boyd, Ed Boyd, Bruce Boyd, Earcel Boyd, Billy Boyd, Lloyd Boyd, and Rollo Boyd; and sisters, Lillie Mae Hinson, Nell Cowart, Sarah Neal, Jereane Arntson, and two infant sisters. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Patricia Boyd of Jackson; one daughter, Connie Deeds and husband Sammy; and two sons, Jeffery Boyd and Neal Boyd and wife Becca.

Verden H. Brewer

Verden Howard Brewer, 93, of Jena, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at his residence in Jena. He was born Sunday, May 6, 1923 in Bay, Arkansas, to the union of his parents, Mathus Floyd and Stella Mabel Ingram Brewer. Mr. Brewer was a member of Christ Temple Pentecostal Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for 37 years. He served in the United States Army during World War II, in the South Pacific, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, at Christ Temple Pentecostal Church in Jena with Bishop Kevin Greene, and the Revs. Dan McClure and Jeff Sandifer officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

Shane Ray Foy

Shane Ray Foy, 37, of Olla, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. Shane was a graduate of LaSalle High School, Class of 1997. He enjoyed many things such as bowling and fishing, but oh how he loved football! Go Saints! Geaux LSU! There was also baseball, let’s not forget the Cubs. However, the ball he enjoyed most was when he was helping coach his children and others to play ball. Shane was quite the comedian. There was never a dull moment when he was with you. He was a loyal friend who loved with all his heart. He did many things and loved many people, but there was nothing in this world he cared about or loved more than his family. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 21, at Olla Pentecostal Church with Pastor Steve Cripps and Rev. Jonathan Crist officiating. Interment followed in the Perot Family Cemetery of Clarks under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home, Alexandria.
