Dwana Gail Miley

Dwana Gail Jones Miley, 66, of Tullos, passed from this life on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

She was born August 4, 1953 in Olla to the union of her parents, Walter Lee “Casey” Jones and Eunice Elizabeth Stephens Jones.

Dwana was an active member of the Pleasant Grove Church of God at Grayson until her health began to decline in the past few years. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt and friend to so many.

Dwana was known for her giving spirit of kindness as she was always willing to help anyone in need.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 24, in the Urania Cemetery in Urania with Rev. Jimmy Rowland officiating.

Interment followed under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla and Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her sister, Rev. Patricia Jones.

Donald Seth LeMay

Donald Seth LeMay

Donald Seth Le-May, 82, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Sunday, July 5, 2020, in the Haven Nursing Home of Columbia.

He was born Friday, April 1, 1938 in Stamps, Arkansas to the union of his parents, Bennie Samuel LeMay and Ruby Brown LeMay.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, at Pine Hill Baptist Church near Olla with Brothers Chase Weeks and Cory Fowler officiating.

Interment followed in the Pine Hill Church Cemetery near Olla under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Phillips LeMay; and three brothers, Allen LeMay, Tim LeMay and Tillman LeMay.

Survivors include three daughters, Debra DeVaux and husband Brian of Kelly, Teresa Peoples of Oakdale, and Shelia Ford of Winnsboro; one son, Steve LeMay of Manifest; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Margaret B. Kincaid

Margaret Bernice Hinson Kincaid, 93, of Dallas, Texas, and formerly of Jena, passed from this life on July 18, 2020, in Dallas.

She was born August 16, 1926 in Magnolia, Arkansas to Walter Drew Hinson and Katie Mae Sims Furman. She was the second of seven children.

Margaret and husband, Roy, traveled extensively in the United States as well as abroad during their lifetime. Her early married years were spent as a housewife and mother, but later she worked. Her favorite jobs were teaching modeling at John Robert Powers Modeling College and with Braniff Airlines.

During her time with Braniff she became manager of the flight attendant school. She taught the flight attendants how to dress, wear make-up properly, how to walk without being too prissy, and to be charming in their job.

Later she was promoted to manager of Personal Appearances. She was known to strictly enforce dress codes of all levels of the Braniff Corporation.

Shirley Jean Fontenot, 50, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 25, at Good Road Pentecostal Church of Jonesville with Rev. Chad Franklin officiating.

Interment followed in Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two grandchildren, Aiden Joe Mayo and Nathan Alexander Mayo.

Melissa E. Frederick

Melissa Elaine McLain Frederick, 41, of Monroe, passed from this life on Thursday, July 23, 2020, in Monroe.

She was born February 1, 1979 in Columbia to the union of her loving parents, James Daniel McLain and Sharon Elaine Autrey McLain.

Melissa was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and was also a licensed cosmetologist. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was also a member of the Living Church of God.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 27, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Frank Autrey officiating.

Interment followed in the Fellowship Cemetery, west of Columbia, under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Jan Becky Frederick; and by her paternal grandparents, J.D. and Gladys McLain.

Walterine Bradford, 85, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, July 11, 2020, in West Monroe.

She was born May 28, 1935 in the Blade Community near Jena to the union of her parents, Walter Hanes and Ada Doughty Hanes.

Services were held Tuesday, July 14, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Patrick Thompson officiating.

Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery at Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Horace Ray “Jake” Bradford, Jr.; brother, George Hanes; and sisters, Sarah Pritchard and Mary McKnight.

Melba Rae Bradford

Melba Rae Bradford

Melba Rae McGuffee Bradford, wife of the late Rev. Oscar Bradford, entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, July 19, 2020 in St. Francis Hospital of Monroe, following a brief illness.

Ms. Melba was born to the union of James Coy, “Big Dad” and Ida King McGuffee on December 17, 1934 in Harrisonburg. She passed from this life at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 2 days.

Ms. Melba spent her working career for many years as a school teacher in the LaSalle Parish School System. She also carried the duties of a minister’s wife. Her husband, the late Rev. Oscar Bradford served as pastor of many local area churches as well as abroad. She will be remembered for her sweet Christian spirit and kind word for everyone.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, at Pritchard Baptist Church in the Old River Community with the Revs. Warren Eckhardt and Terry Doughty officiating.

George E. Beard, 62, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, July 6, 2020, in the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

He was born July 16, 1957 to his parents, the late David and Mert Ward Beard.

George was employed by T.K. Stanley and Louisiana-Pacific.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 11, at Webster Cemetery of Good Pine with Rev. Jamerson Jackson officiating.

Interment followed under direction of Gayden Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Deloris Brown; and two brothers, David Beard, Jr. and Jerry Beard, Sr.

Linda W. Jackson

Linda Webster Jackson, 60, of Jena, passed from this life on Friday, July 10, 2020.

She was born December 4, 1959 in Jena, to the union of her parents, Elbert and Idell Webster.

Linda was baptized at L&A Baptist Church in Good Pine by Rev. Dave Mays in 1973.

She attended elementary school in Good Pine, Junior High and High School in Jena, graduating in 1979 from JHS.

Linda’s employment included teacher II at Olla and LaSalle Head Start, school bus driver for LaSalle School System, cashier at Walmart, and personal care attendant with We Care Home Care.

At church, Linda served in the senior usher ministry and women’s ministry. Her civic and fraternal organizations include Oriole #18, O.E.S., PHA; Mary G.M. White Court #12; H. S. Nesby Scholarship Foundation, Tiger Cub Leader – Troop 115 of Boy Scouts of America.

David A. Gaspard

David Austin Gaspard, 70, of Jonesville passed from this life on Friday, July 17, 2020 in Jonesville following a battle with cancer.

He was born Wednesday, October 19, 1949 in Jonesville to the union of his parents, Clarence Gaspard and Inez White Gaspard.

David was a resident of Jonesville and a member of the Pentecostals of Jonesville.

He began his career in the printing field first at the Jonesville News and Catahoula Booster, two newspapers published by R. W. Wagner of Jena. At these two publications, David learned the trade and later was employed by Wagner at The Jena Times and Olla Tullos Signal in LaSalle Parish.

His printing career was put on hold in mid-1969 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. David served his country proudly and after being discharged, returned to the printing business, working mostly in Natchez, Mississippi.
