Rheta Glynn Denton

Rheta Glynn Denton, 84, of the Mt. Sinai Community, passed from this life on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

She was born in Trout on December 25, 1934.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Mt. Sinai Cemetery of Trout with Rev. Gary Norris officiating.

Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar McCartney; mother, Irma Francis; and two sisters, Marguerite Chevallier and Eula Cummings.

Left to cherish in her memory is her husband, Billy Wayne Denton of Mt. Sinai Community.

Pallbearers were Terry Knapp, Jack Zeaglar, Mickey Cockerham, Terry Clark, Alex Schopp, and Paul Daily.

Honorary pallbearers were Lynn Duke, Louis Paul, and Jack Cockerham.

Ruthie Gail Cooper

Ruthie Gail Cooper, 70, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, January 30, 2020.

She was born December 3, 1949 in Jonesboro.

Ruthie Gail loved cooking, gardening, playing piano, and spending time with her family.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Byron Norris and Jessie Henderson officiating.

Interment followed in the Hurricane Creek Cemetery in the Hurricane Creek Community under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Cooper; father, Truman Aaron Webb, Sr.; and mother, Virginia Ruth DeVore Cooper.

Sylvia Welch Bell

Sylvia Welch Bell

Sylvia Welch Bell, 93, of Jena, answered God’s call to come back to her resting place on Sunday, January 19, 2020.

She was born May 10, 1926 to the union of the late Annie and Pierce Welch. She had a long life which brings a cycle of changes, birth, joy, death and sorrows, but through it all her Faith in God never changed.

Sylvia was one of six siblings: Pierce, Louis, Fred Welch, Audrey Johnson and Idell Stevenson, all who preceded her in death.

She attended school in Catahoula Parish, and on June 20, 1991, she married Leo Bell, who preceded her in death 15 days earlier, on January 4, 2020.

Dorsie Lee Beech

Dorsie Lee Beech

Dorsie Lee Beech, 87, of Trout, passed from this life on Saturday, January 25, 2020.

She was born June 7, 1932 in Oretta to the union of her parents, Edward Lee Parker and Flora Mae Koonce Parker.

Mrs. Beech loved traveling and fishing. When she was home, she liked to watch old westerns, listen to bluegrass music, and especially play moon with her family.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Bryon Norris officiating.

Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery at Manifest under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Beech; her parents; sons, Tim Beech and Bruce Beech; daughter, Linda Sue Beech; brothers, Freety Parker and Vernon Parker; and sister, Janelle Bates.

Michael Taylor

Michael Taylor, 73, of Atlanta, Georgia, and native of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

He was born and raised in Jena, the son of the late Hardtner and Erva Mae Taylor of Jena.

Mike spent the majority of his working career in New Orleans before moving to Atlanta, GA to be near his daughter and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 8, in the gymnasium at Temple Baptist Church in Jena.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Taylor; daughter, Alison (Steve); two grandchildren; brother, David Taylor (Tracy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family request memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Lynn Rouse Oxley

Lynn Rouse Oxley, 68, of Harrisonburg, passed from this life on Monday, January 20, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 24, at First Baptist Church of Harrisonburg with the Brother Josh Adams and Rev. Jack Knapp officiating.

Interment followed in the Harrisonburg Cemetery under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Bobbie Rouse.

Those left to cherish her memory include children, Jason and Robin Aplin and Staci and Lee Cater; grandchildren, Connor Aplin, Caden Aplin and Abby Cater; father, Raymond Rouse; stepmother, Jackie Rouse; brother, Buddy Rouse and wife Liz; sisters, Beth Ashworth, Mona Rouse and Jennifer Cowart; and lifelong friends, Deborah Womack and Johnnie Carol Estes.

Pallbearers were Lee Cater, Connor Aplin, Billy Rouse, Chris Rouse, Josh Neal and Trey Rouse.

Jerry Lane Lee

Jerry Lane Lee

Jerry Lane Lee, 76, of Olla, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at his home in Olla surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 7, 1943 in California to the union of his parents, Charles Sidney Lee and Jeanie Baum Lee.

Jerry Lane had served his communtity as a former Mayor of Georgetown, and served his country in the United States Army. He was a Certified Public Accountant, Entrepreneur having owned a building supply and lumber company. He was also a Union Steward in local 492 dealing with official business on behalf of its members.

He attended the Pleasant Grove Church of God at Grayson as his health would permit.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Edward Dickerson officiating.

Interment with full military honors followed in the Urania Cemetery in Urania under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia/Olla.

Robert “Bob” Guin

Robert L. “Bob” Guin, 82, of Jena, passed from this life Sunday night, January 26, 2020.

A native of Caldwell Parish, Bob had called Jena home for many years. He retired from Central Louisiana Telephone Company (now CenturyLink).

He was born December 2, 1937.

Arrangements were not complete at press time on Monday but will be announced by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

J.D. Frazier

J.D. Frazier

James Dayton “J.D.” Frazier, 86, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, January 23, 2020.

He was born January 3, 1934 in Alexandria to the union of his parents, James Harper Frazier and Eula Inez Webb Frazier.

J.D. served in the Louisiana National Guard during peacetime and graduated from Mississippi State, Louisiana College, and La Business School. He was a Deacon at Summerville Baptist Church and worked for the La- Salle Parish School Board for 20 years. He was also a Manager at Bo Gray Casing and he was an Auctioneer at LaSalle Sales.

Last May, J.D. was honored by Nebo Elementary School for his 20 years of service – first seven as a teacher and the final 13 years as principal – during a reception in the community. As principal at Nebo, he was instrumental in arranging for the 8th grade class to go to Six Flags in Texas at the end of each school year.

Ellis Edwin Erwin, Sr., 79, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Friday, January 24, 2020.

He was born July 27, 1940 in Wisner to the union of his parents, Reubin Erwin and Clara Roberts Erwin.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 26, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Dennis Baker and Steven Ford officiating.

Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hubert A. Erwin; and sister, Francis Hutchins.
