James Olen Murry

James Olen Murry, 54, of Urania, passed from this life on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at the St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria.

He was born June 21, 1963 in DeRidder.

James was employed at Louisiana-Pacific and an offshore worker until he was disabled. James loved his Harley and all of his Harley friends and family.

He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and paw paw.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the First Baptist Church of Olla with Rev. Greg Dunn officiating.

Interment followed in the Urania Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

He was preceded in death by his father, Olen Overton Murry; grandparents, Obie Murry and Gertrude Murry, and Mae Street and Allie Street; and nephew, Davis O. Young.

Peggy Haygood Meyers

Peggy Haygood Meyers, 83, of Harrisonburg, passed from this life on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at her residence.

She was born Monday, January 22, 1934 in Harrisonburg to the union of her parents, Evon Rolo Haygood and Gertrude Nugent Haygood.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 27, at Meyers Bend Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Mark Johnson, David Fugua, Bill Cotten, and Claude Chaney officiating.

Interment followed in the Harrisonburg Cemetery under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Huey Meyers; parents; sister, Bobbie Jean Haygood Meyers; two great-grandchildren, Hadley Pentecost and Braxton Pentecost; and brother-in-law, W.D. Hackney, Jr..

Mary Lou Etheridge

Mary Lou Neal Etheridge, 67, of Olla, passed from this life on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at the Heritage Manor West Nursing Home in Shreveport.

She was born March 4, 1950 at the old Hardtner Medical Clinic in downtown Urania to the union of her parents, Marie Ford Neal and Felder F. Neal.

Mary Lou was a 1968 graduate of LaSalle High School in Olla, and was a longtime employee of the Urania and Olla Banks. Mary Lou loved all her Facebook friends and she especially enjoyed staying up late and listening to music videos on Facebook with her friends.

Sometimes she called her sister or friends late at night and talked for hours. She also loved to cook and enjoyed cooking for her close friends, Carol, Becky and Shirley. She also loved going to her sister’s house on holidays where she could pitch in and help cook a big holiday feast.

James Ray Doughty

James Ray Doughty, 74, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at his home near Jena following an extended illness.

He was born May 29, 1943 in Jena to the union of his parents, Donald James and Doris Maxine Crooks Doughty.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed for many years by the Louisiana Secretary of State as an Election Technician, and was in charge of voting machines in LaSalle Parish, and also served in other parishes as needed.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Terry Doughty and Mike Russell officiating.

Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Kristy Martin; and a great niece, Kelsey Thaxton.

Carolyn Cruse

Carolyn Cruse, 74, of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, August 21, 2017, at St. Frances Cabrini Medical Center in Alexandria.

She was born August 10, 1943 in Rochelle to the union of her parents, Quincy and Grace Bass Cruse.

Carolyn babysat and raised a lot of kids who knew her as mamaw.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Standard Baptist Church of Olla with the Revs. Denver McBroom and Shad Tibbs officiating.

Interment followed in the Chickasaw Cemetery, east of Olla, under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Wesley Bradford; and her parents.

Ethel Jane Buchanan

Ethel Jane Buchanan, 97, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at her residence in Jena.

She was born July 22, 1920 in Eudora, Arkansas to the union of her parents, William Barnes and Ethel Anderson Gaffney Sansing.

Mrs. Buchanan was a resident of Jena for seventeen years, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and her children and her church were her life. A southern lady, she loved to dress up and look nice. She will be remembered as a humble and nice lady.

Services were held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Keene officiating.

Interment followed in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Greensville, Mississippi, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F.L. “Buck” Buchanan, Jr.; her parents; and son-in-law, Don Day.

Evelyn M. Brockner

Evelyn M. Brockner, 92, of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, August 21, 2017, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania.

She was born June 26, 1925 in Monroe to the union of her parents, Clay Mayes and Camille Volentine Mayes.

Mrs. Brockner was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Olla. She was a graduate of Kelly High School in Kelly, and attended both Louisiana Tech University and University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Together with her husband, the late Daniel William Brockner, she helped manage Brockner Oil and Gas and Brockner Properties, LLC, in Olla, for many years.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with Rev. Aaron Carpenter officiating.

Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by her twin brother, Edwyn Clay Mayes.

Kathylene P. Baldridge

Kathylene “Kaye” Pearl McCarty Baldridge, 87, of Olla, passed from this life on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

She was born December 26, 1929 in Port Lavaca, Texas, to the union of her parents, Charles Baker and Miriam Vira Shippey McCarty. She was born and raised on the plains of South Texas during the Great Depression.

She was the second oldest of 13 children and therefore, she had many responsibilities. Her oldest sister and two oldest brothers helped in their grandfather’s dairy before and after school. She was up as early as 4 a.m.

She married at the age of 16 and moved numerous times over the years with her husband (who worked in the oil field business) and her growing family.

Ginger Worthington

Ginger Denise Worthington was born May 31, 1982 at 12:18 p.m. to her proud parents, Melvin and Coral Murray Worthington.

She was Baptized on June 26, 1987 and began her work in Christ’s Kingdom at the L & A Baptist Church in Jena. She was a member of Harvest Point Fellowship Church in Pearland, Texas pastored by Rev. Lawrence Scott.

At Harvest Point she was an active member and continued her enthusiasm in God’s work.

Educationally, Ginger’s goals were soaring from pre-school age through adulthood. She was involved in numerous extra-curricular activities from elementary through high school. She graduated in the year 2000 from Jena High School as Valedictorian, class president and Homecoming Queen.

Clyde Duane Wyant

Clyde D. Wyant, 79, of Columbia, passed from this life on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Columbia following an extended illness.

He was born February 8, 1938, in Caldwell Parish to the union of his parents, Henry Denius Wyant and Amy Cassells Wyant.

Clyde was a commercial fisherman most of his life and a carpenter. He was a member of Holum Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with the Revs. Shane Duke and Mark London officiating.

Interment followed in the Rosefield Cemetery at Rosefield under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Carl Bustin; and by his siblings, Little Henry Wyant, H. D. Wyant, Earl Wyant, Maloy Wyant, Benji Wyant and Verina McKee.
