Emogene B. McClure

Emogene Breithaupt McClure, 89, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, January 10, 2021, in Jena.

She was born August 31, 1931 in French Fork to the union of her parents, Terry Calhoun Breithaupt, Sr. and Teadie Walker McClure.

Services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, at Whitehall United Pentecostal Church at Whitehall with Rev. Joey Paul officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in the Pentecost Cemetery of Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley McClure; infant daughter, Deborah McClure; parents; brothers, Aulcie Breithaupt, Leslie Breithaupt, and Terry Breithaupt, Jr.; and sisters, Ernestine B. Robertson and Lessie Lea McClure.

Those left to cherish in her memory include her daughter, Cynthia McClure Phelps; grandson, John Stephens; and great-grandsons, John Stephens II and Zack Stephens.

Arthur ‘Buddy’ McClure

Arthur Lee “Buddy” McClure, 90, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was a resident of the Columns Nursing Home in Jonesville.

He was born September 17, 1930 in Utility, to the union of his parents, Leslie and Cora McClure.

Buddy served his country in the United States Army, and was a lifelong farmer and an avid sportsman.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena.

Interment was under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen McClure; parents; three sisters, Bonnie McNeely, Minnie Tullos and Dorothy Barton; and one brother, Marion McClure.

Buddy is survived by one brother, Larry McClure and wife Ginger; step daughters, Gail LaCroix and Gwen Smith; step-son, Gary Duck; and numerous nieces, nephews and step grandchildren.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Ruby Nell McBroom

Ruby Nell McBroom, 72, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the Citizens Medical Center of Columbia.

She was born April 23, 1948.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William McBroom; mother, Rachel Herz; brother, Daniel Keene; son-in-law, Charlie (Chuck) Kyler Jr.; and father, Frank Keene.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sheryl Patt (William) of Georgetown, Eric Patt (Tanna), Wanda Dunn (Robbie) and Brenda Kyle, all of Kelly; grandchildren, Mitchell Douglas, Charlie Kyle III, Michaelangelo Kyle, Amy Wyant, Michael Wyant, Jacob Gaines, Gina Munro, Caleb Patt and Tanyr Patt; great grandchildren, Jackie Dortch, Michael Wyant Jr., Hayden Drew Wyant and Bryson Wayne Wyant.

Kathy Cruse Hester

Kathy Cruse Hester

Kathy Ann Cruse Hester (Nana), an honorary Cajun of Lafayette, finished her race and won her more than five year battle with cancer on the morning of January 9, 2021. She has touched the face of God and most likely had to leave the party early to get to the golf course. If you know momma, you know that’s par for the course!

Born April 30, 1952 to Shelton and Wilma Cruse in Jena, Kathy was the sparkle in her mama’s eye and the best baby sister to her three older siblings. She attended LaSalle High School and by all accounts was one of the best athletes to come out of LaSalle Parish.

She was proud to be a LaSalle Tiger and was loved by all of her classmates through high school to this day. After high school and marriage in Okinawa, Japan, she worked as a Deputy Marshal for the city of Monroe, and finished her career finding her life’s purpose as a Class A LPGA Teaching professional.

George Johnson, 63, of Harrisonburg, passed from this life on Friday January 8, 2021 at the age of 63 from complications due to COVID.

He was born March 29, 1957, in Harrisonburg, to the union of Billy Ray and Audrey Johnson.

George was a graduate of Harrisonburg High School and a member of Harrisonburg Methodist Church.

A private graveside service will be held January 30, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., in the Harrisonburg Cemetery, officiated by Bro. Kenneth Hoots and music provided by Bro. Beau Edwards and wife C.C.

George was preceded in death by his father; brothers, John Frederick Johnson and Billy Ray Johnson, Jr; grandparents, John Ernest and Helen Johnson, and Fred and Nell Korn.

“Jean” Grafton

Jessie Jeanine “Jean” Windham Peyton Grafton, 86, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 after a brief illness.

She was born October 24, 1934 in Jena to the union of her parents, Albert Windham and Inez Stapleton Windham.

Jean was a caregiver all of her life and raised a wonderful family in love and devotion.

Professionally, she did bookkeeping and private sitting before retirement. She was church secretary and played the piano and organ at Bellevue Baptist Church in Jena for many years before moving to Lafayette with family. Being a skilled pianist, she provided music to begin and end her own funeral service.

Billie Ann Dean

Billie Ann Jackson Dean, 65, of Jena, entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 2, 2021.

She was born August 19, 1955 in Pineville to the union of her parents, Florence and James Jackson, the fifth child born to this union.

Billie Ann was educated in the LaSalle Parish school system. She was baptized at L&A Baptist Church in Good Pine, under the leadership of Reverend Dave Mays. She often attended Trout Creek Baptist Church until her health declined. Billie loved shopping, dancing and listening to the blues. She enjoyed life.

Billie met and married Johnny Ray Dean in 1971. To this union nine children were born.

Graveside services were held at 12-noon Friday, Jan. 8, at Webster Cemetery of Good Pine with Rev. Chauncey Hardy, pastor of L&A Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

Laura Faye Bradford

Laura Faye Bradford, 91, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at her home in Jena.

She was born February 20, 1929 in Truman, Arkansas to the union of her parents, Mathus Floyd Brewer and Stella Mabel Ingram Brewer.

Laura was a very loving person who had a passion for children and sharing God’s word with them. She taught Sunday school and children’s church at Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church for several decades, touching many young lives. She was a creative person. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, painting, and crafting. She was an excellent cook, she loved cooking for her family and friends.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church near Nebo with Rev. Dan McClure officiating.

Interment followed in the Hailey Cemetery in Walkerville under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

Sheila Ann Wright

Sheila Ann Masters Wright, 70, of Trout, passed from this life on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at her home surround by her family.

She was born June 24, 1950 in Jena to the union of her parents, J.D. Masters and Mary Jo Powell Masters.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 5, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Denver Mc-Broom and Chris Hamilton officiating.

Interment followed in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery near Trout under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and great grandson, Cooper Lee Wright.

Those left to cherish in her memory include her husband of 52 years, John Wright; sons, Chancy Wright (Penny) of Tullos, Jarrad Wright (Beverly) of Urania, David Wright of Trout, and Kyle Williams (Katie) of Pineville; daughters, Keri Wright of Trout, and Amy Bennett (Donald) of Tioga; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.

Guy Payne Whitten

Guy P. Whitten, 85, of Grayson, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at University Medical Center New Orleans, following a lengthy illness.

He was born on July 1, 1935, in Caldwell Parish to the union of Trowley J. Whitten and Ruby Carpenter Whitten.

During his lifetime he held many varied jobs, working for the US Corp of Engineers, Caldwell Police Jury as a grader machine operator, Caldwell Parish School Board as a janitor at Kelly Elementary and later as a school bus driver, following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps. He could do almost anything he put his mind to.

Guy attended Zion Hill Baptist Church, north of Olla, until his health no longer allowed him to do so. He loved the outdoors, was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman. He also loved to cook, especially for his hunting buddies at the camp.
