LaSalle Tigers struggling in early basketball season

The LaSalle Tigers Basketball team has struggled out of the gate this season. A couple of season ending injuries and two other injuries that sidelined two starters has been the culprit of the struggles.

The Tigers lost Blade Beaubouef and Will Smith to knee injuries during the football season. Hunter Daigneault and Jason Baum were both sidelined with football injuries that lingered into the early basketball season.

Lady Tigers working hard on the basketball court

The LaSalle Lady Tigers Basketball team has their season well underway. The Lady Tigers have been working hard this early basketball season looking for a repeat of last season’s postseason trip.

The girls have opened this season with a record of 10 wins and 8 losses overall. The Ladies have also opened district with a 2-2 record.

Jena Lady Giants start district play this week; Giants to start next week

The Jena Lady Giants will start district play this week.

The Lady Giants come into district play under a new head coach as Coach Ikey Ray is in his first year as the Lady Giants coach. The Lady Giants made it through their non-district part of the schedule with a 7-11 record.

The Lady Giants picked up some big wins in non-district with the biggest ones coming at Avoyelles Charter, at home against Franklin Parish, and at Block. With these wins the Lady Giants are currently sitting at #24 in the Class 3A power rankings.

All-Cenla Football Team includes 12 local athletes

The All-Cenla Football Team was announced last week and included a dozen athletes from the Jena Giants and LaSalle Tigers football teams.

Named on the first team were:

Troy Dangerfield, Jena, Jr., linebacker. The defensive MVP of District 3-3A, Dangerfield became a legitimate contender for the All-Cenla Defensive Player of the Year by leading the Giants in tackles with 108. He also had a sack, a forced fumble and an interception.

The Jena Dixie Darlings Fastpitch All-Star Team was named World Champions

The Jena Dixie Darlings Fastpitch All-Star Team was named World Champions at the Dixie Darlings World Series Fastpitch Softball Tournament in Sumter, South Carolina August 2 after they won the championship game in the series. The team of seven and eight year olds was comprised of Abbie Barton, Ameera Jones, Kiette Cooper, Kinley Morris, Hayden Tolliver, Rylee Stapleton and Autumn Sharp, Jada Morphis, Olivia Carr, Lyriq Murray, Trin Williams, Lexi Wilson and Jordan Parker and Coaches Amber Morris, Frankie Morris, Jimmy Greer and Thomenthian Williams.

A historic year in sports

The year 2017 will forever be identified with the word “champions” for LaSalle Parish, as various athletic teams in an array of sports proved greatness is being produced in the Jena, Olla, and surrounding areas.

From the World Champion Jena Dixie Darlings to the dual State Championship baseball and softball teams of LaSalle High School, 2017 was certainly a remarkable and historic year.

Eleven Tigers named to All-District teams

Eleven LaSalle High School Tigers were recently named to the District 4-1A All-District teams.

Even though the Tigers suffered season ending injuries to some of its players, and others were forced to miss some games because of injuries, the Tigers still finished the season ranked at Number 12 in the state.

Nineteen Giants named to All-District teams

Nineteen Jena High School Giants were recently named to the 2017 Class 3-3A All-District football teams.

The Giants finished the 2017 season with another 10-0 perfect record and claimed the district championship and was ranked as the Number 2 team in the state, and earned a berth in the state playoffs.

Most exciting season in history of JHS football

Our Jena High School football team just completed a season that will go down in history as perhaps the most exciting ever.

However, some members of that state quarter finalist team could put up a powerful argument. That game they won in the southern most tip of our state was just as exciting as the Caldwell game.
