LaSalle Lady Tigers 2-2 in district play

By Greg Jones

The LaSalle Lady Tigers are 2-2 in district 3-1A play and ranked number 7 in the LHSAA power rankings, but these ladies are not satisfied. This team has worked tirelessly all off-season to be in the position they are in now.

After a first round post season exit last year, these girls went to work and began preparing for this season. The returning players, Kierra Smith, Kelsey Barnhill, Carli Pridhomme, Ali Long, Gracie Skinner, and Annabeth Pittman, were excited to see a large freshman class coming in to help.

LaSalle Tigers have had their struggles

By Greg Jones

The Tigers have gotten off to a rocky start this season. The Tigers have played hard every game and never just threw in the towel. The Tigers are 0-4 in district play and have six games left to right the ship.

These guys are practicing hard to make things better for the rest of this season. The season’s bright spot has been the play of the freshman class that came in from the jr high. They have sparked the offense at times to keep the Tigers in every game.

Lady Giants pick up two district wins; Giants start district with Winnfield win

By Austin Whatley

The Jena Lady Giants started district play a couple of weeks ago by playing the Buckeye Lady Panthers at home. The Lady Giants were looking to start strong in district play with a win. The Lady Giants have played well against the Lady Panthers the last couple of years as they have beat them 4 times in the last 2 years. Things would be no different this time around as the Lady Giants would start out with a 23-14 lead going into halftime.

The Lady Giants did an excellent job of taking care of the basketball and limiting their turnovers. The Lady Giants also played well on defense as they used their 2-3 zone to force the Lady Panthers to take a lot of contested long range shots. The Lady Giants would continue playing well in the 2nd half as they would go on to win the game 52-37.
