Louisiana Thunder plays in Oklahoma City Triple Crown

The Louisiana Thunder softball team competed in the Triple Crown Tournament held in Oklahoma City, OK May 30-June 1. Louisiana Thunder is a group of players ages 12-14 from Caldwell, LaSalle, and Grant Parishes. Teams from as far as Washington state and Indiana traveled to Oklahoma City to compete in this prestigious and rewarding tournament.

For the first time in the history of the award, five student-athletes have been named winners of the 2014-15 American Southwest Conference Community Service Award, the ASC office announced Monday (June 8) after a vote of the league’s athletic directors in Richardson, Texas.

Road closure on Dewey W. Wills W.M.A.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is advising WMA users that Hunt Road, south of the Diversion Canal, on Dewey W. Wills Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will be closed to all traffic once the water level on Larto Lake reaches 45.0 feet.

Waterfowl hunter opinion survey for 2015 announced

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Waterfowl Section, in partnership with LSU’s School of Renewable Natural Resources, has begun a survey of Louisiana waterfowl hunters which asks for input on waterfowl hunting activity, experience with the past hunting season, satisfaction with recent zones and zone boundaries, potential new zone boundaries, and attitudes on particular policies.

The Louisiana Thunder Fastpitch Softball team is ready to rock into their summer ball season. After numerous tournaments getting rained out this spring, Louisiana Thunder competed in the Elite Bayou Brawl held at ULM May 2-3.

Four parish softball, baseball teams place 36 on All-District

A total of 36 players from the softball and baseball teams from Jena High School and LaSalle High School were named to the 2015 All-District teams in their respective districts. All four teams qualified for the state playoffs this year, with the Jena Giants baseball team winning their first state playoff game in eleven years.

Jena Giants great season comes to an end in 2nd round of playoffs

This past week the Jena Giants did something that hasn’t been done in 12 years. The Giants were preparing for a 2nd round playoff game. The #15 seed Jena Giants made it to the 2nd round after defeating #18 Berwick at home in the first round. With the win the Giants earned the right to play #2 John Curtis in the 2nd round on the road. John Curtis made it to the state championship game last year where they were defeated by Evangel.

LaSalle High Track team at district meet

LaSalle High track members Hannah Couvillion (far left) and Ali Long (far right) participate in the 100m Dash during the recent District Track Meet hosted by St Marys at Natchitoches Central High School in Natchitoches. At District competition, the LHS Track Team came away with 23 first through fourth place awards, including fourth place overall. The team also sent 27 students to compete in the Regional Track Meet at Lakeside Junior-Senior High School in Sibley hosted by Haynesville and Cedar Creek.
