Jena Dixie Boys win district championship; going to state

The Jena 14-year-old All-Stars Dixie boys baseball team won the district title on July 8th in tournament play, and will play in the Louisiana Dixie State tournament in Pineville beginning July 18th. This is the first year in some time that Jena has had a Dixie Boys baseball program. Four teams competed during the season at the Justiss Memorial Field in Jena, and when the season ended, an All-Star team was selected for the district tournament.

The Blade-n-Barrel 7-8-year-old Jena Dixie Youth baseball team had an awesome 2015 season, posting seven wins. Jena High School Gold Dusters recently attended UDA dance camp

The Jena High School Gold Dusters recently attended UDA dance camp at Northwestern State University where they received 35 blue ribbons, third place in home routine, Drill Down superior trophy, and the Superior Team Routine trophy, which qualifies them to perform at the pregame performance at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.

Louisiana Thunder plays in Oklahoma City Triple Crown

The Louisiana Thunder softball team competed in the Triple Crown Tournament held in Oklahoma City, OK May 30-June 1. Louisiana Thunder is a group of players ages 12-14 from Caldwell, LaSalle, and Grant Parishes. Teams from as far as Washington state and Indiana traveled to Oklahoma City to compete in this prestigious and rewarding tournament.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is advising WMA users that Hunt Road, south of the Diversion Canal, on Dewey W. Wills Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will be closed to all traffic once the water level on Larto Lake reaches 45.0 feet.

Waterfowl hunter opinion survey for 2015 announced

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Waterfowl Section, in partnership with LSU’s School of Renewable Natural Resources, has begun a survey of Louisiana waterfowl hunters which asks for input on waterfowl hunting activity, experience with the past hunting season, satisfaction with recent zones and zone boundaries, potential new zone boundaries, and attitudes on particular policies.
