Mardi Gras crewes, pumpkins and motorcycles were only a few of the subjects that area children recently learned about at the fourth annual Tales on the Trails. The free event is sponsored by the LaSalle Parish Republican Women to promote literacy. It featured stations manned by various local organizations such as the Busy Bees Garden Club as well as the LaSalle Parish School System’s Special Education Department, East Jena Baptist Church and more.

Dozens of children took part in the activities and had stories read to them at each of the stations. Each child received up to two books each from the bookstore if they visited at least six stations.
