W. “Cooter” Smith

William H. “Cooter” Smith, 93, a lifelong resident of Jena crossed over to his heavenly reward on Friday July 20, 2018, at Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe.
Mr. Smith was born in Tall Timber, Louisiana on August 10, 1924, to the union of Arthur and Lily Coon Smith.
Cooter, as he was known to most folks, was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He was self-employed, working in the agriculture business. He loved to fish and hunt and loved listening to gospel music quartets.
Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 24, from the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Jena with the Revs. Dominick DiCarlo and Mickey Hudnall officiating.
Interment with full military honors followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Berniece “Snoodle” Chandler Smith; two brothers, Curtis Smith and Ray Smith; and one sister, Vera Gulde.
Left to cherish his memory is one daughter, Shelia Moffett and husband Rev. James Moffett of Bastrop; grandchildren, Tonya Parker, Aimee Pearson and husband John, Sarah Cardwell and husband Chris; great grandchildren, Bryce Parker, Mackenzie Parker, Nathaniel Pearson, Ethan Pearson and Jonathan Pearson.
Pallbearers were Robert Terrell, Kaylon Randall, Tom Watkins, Scott McLendon, Charles Davidson and Fred Powell.
Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Bryce Parker, Nathaniel Pearson, Ethan Pearson, Jonathan Pearson and friend Wendell Wilson.
