According to Dr. David Holcombe, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospital’s Region 6 (Central Louisiana) Regional Administrator and Medical Director, COVID-19 cases in LaSalle Parish continue to rise.
“From the first week of July to the second week of July, LaSalle Parish has had 33 new positive cases,” Dr. Holcombe said. “LaSalle now has a positivity rate of 11.2 percent, which is high.”
While cases continue to rise with the new Delta Variant, Holcombe said vaccinations among LaSalle’s residents continues to be low.
State officials report that over 97 percent of hospitalizations from the coronavirus are people that are unvaccinated.
“Our best method is to get as many people vaccinated as possible,” Dr. Holcombe said. “This new Delta variant is more contagious than the others and the vaccinations have proven to work.”
The LaSalle Parish Health Unit provides free vaccination every weekday from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. and no appointment is necessary. They also offer free vaccinations by drive-thru, meaning individuals do not even have to get out of vehicles, every Friday, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Again, no appointment is necessary. For any questions, individuals may call the health unit at (318) 992-4842.
“Please, if you are not vaccinated get vaccinated,” the doctor said. “Plus, you can win a million dollars (referring to the state’s lottery for vaccinated individuals where money will be given away in August).”
