The Wellspring Alliance for Families serves victims of domestic violence throughout LaSalle Parish. Our mission is to reduce the devastating impact of domestic violence on individuals, children, families, and communities.
Free, confidential services are now available in the new Jena office located at 1043 Courthouse Street. Services include safety planning, referrals to community resources, case management, transitional housing, protective orders, life skills classes, and more. For an appointment, call 348-3005.

V.F.W. Meeting/Supper
If you are a spouse of or have had a family member that served in a foreign war the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 5002 members invite you to join them at their monthly meeting and supper.

Victims of crime can receive help with safety planning, guidance through the criminal justice system, and access to certain resources to gain strength and security after victimization through the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office Victim Advocate Program.
Services include emotional support, lethality assessment, prevention of abuse, and referrals to services. Assistance in filing Civil Temporary Restraining Orders or Crime Victim’s Reparations, notification of court dates, and accompanying the victim to interviews and court proceedings are available. JHS OpGrad Monthly Meetings
The Jena High Class of 2022 Operation Graduation meetings are held the second Thursday of every month at 6 p.m. in the LaSalle Parish Library meeting room in Jena. All seniors and parents are encouraged to attend the meetings. Next meeting date is January 13.
JHS OpGrad Pizza Fundraiser
A Jena High Class of 2022 Operation Graduation Fundraiser will be held the third Monday of each month (excluding school holidays) at Rick’s Pizza in Jena. The fundraiser pizza deal includes a large two-topping pizza special with cheesesticks and a two-liter drink for $22.00 with 20% of the proceeds donated back to Op-Grad. Be sure to mention OpGrad when ordering the special. The next date will be Monday, March 21.
Prescribed Burning School
The Louisiana Ecological Forestry Center (LEAF), the S.W. La Forestry Association, the LSU AgCenter, the La Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) and the La Department of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF) will have a school to enable forest landowners to burn their lands safely and legally.
The school will be held April 28-30, 2022 – Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Topics will include fuels, burning techniques, proper tools, optimal weather conditions, smoke management, liability management, planning, fire behavior and more. The training will begin the process of becoming a Louisiana Certified Burn Manager.
The completion of five prescribed fires and their documentation will complete the process. The cost is $100. Class size is limited to the first 25 applicants. 4-H SET Workshop
A Science, Engineering and Technology Workshop will be held for 4-H youth in 5th to 7th grades to build models and explore the basics of Newton’s principles and explore engineering designs through hands-on activities. The workshop is slated for Tuesday, January 25, 2022 beginning at 5 p.m. and ending tentatively at 8 p.m. in the downstairs 4-H meeting room below the courthouse.
Registration for the event is $10. The workshop is limited to the first 20 members in 5th to 7th grade. Members will need to supply a face covering. Light individual packaged meal provided. Deadline to register is January 11. A workshop registration flyer is available to members at the club meetings, 4-H office or on the Facebook page, LaSalle Parish 4-H!

Forestry Forum 2022
The LSU AgCenter with the Ag Expo will present the Forestry Forum 2022 on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 8 a.m. to noon at the West Monroe Convention Center (901 Ridge Avenue) in West Monroe.
The cost is $15 per person for early registration and $20 per person at the door. Early registration is due by Friday, January 6.

JHS Most Beautiful Pageant
The Jena High School FBLA Most Beautiful Pageant will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 6 p.m. in the JHS Auditorium. Admission is $5.00. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds will support the JHS Future Business Leaders of America club’s attendance of regional and state conferences.
JHS FBLA will also raise money to support March of Dimes, which is an organization that works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. There will be an Audience Choice Award given for a pageant contestant as well as an escort with the most monetary donations to March of Dimes during the pageant.

4-H members in grades 4th to 6th are invited to join the Junior Leaders and embark on a Wildlife Workshop. Come join in to explore an owl’s diet, age deer on the hoof and more. Members will build a shelter for bird friends. Pizza will be served!

LaSalle 4-H cookery contest
4-Heres, did enjoyed a dish over the holidays that you would love to enter into a competition? If so, enter your special recipe in the Winter Cookery Contest on Tuesday, January 18. Check-in is at 5:15 p.m. with judging at 5:30 p.m.
Check-in is at 5:15 p.m. with judging at 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is requested by January 11, 2022. The contest will be held in the 4-H meeting room in the LaSalle Parish Courthouse. First, Second and Third places will be given for each division and category. Overall dishes in the Chicken and Cupcake Challenge will receive $15, $10 and $5. First and Second Places in Sweet Potato and Pecan qualify for the Regional Cookery Contest in April.
Members may enter only one dish per division. Dishes cannot be split between divisions. Contestants will display their dishes on the table to be judged along with recipe.
Do not put your name on the recipe. Remember: prepare the whole recipe and bring only half of the dish to exhibit in the contest. Leave the other half at home to enjoy with your family! All final garnishes for the dish should be done by the contestant. Dishes will be chilled and brought to the contest cold and on ice in an ice chest.

Fundraiser for Kidney Disease In conjunction with Kidney Disease Awareness
In conjunction with Kidney Disease Awareness Month, a fundraiser for kidney transplant/disease emergency fund is being planned for downtown Olla on March 19 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Food and craft vendors are needed for the events. There will be a $20 fee for booth space with no electricity and a $35 fee for booth space with electricity.
