Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, the LaSalle Tigers still held off Harrisonburg for a 10-9 win on Monday, March 15 in Olla.
The non-district game was one of two victories for the Tigers last week as they put their final preparations in before District 3-1A play begins this week.
Harrisonburg scored five runs in the failed comeback in the late innings as LaSalle collected seven hits in the win.
LaSalle pulled away for good with seven runs in the third inning. In that inning, Thorn Smith doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring a run. Brady Hough singled on an 0-1 count, scoring two runs. LaSalle also scored on a Clay Clark single and two more on a Joshua Jones double.
Beau Skinner got the start for the Tigers only allowing three hits and four runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Joshua Jones relieved Skinner for the next three and onethird innings with Clay Clark pitching the final three outs.
Joshua Jones led the Tigers going 3-4 at the plate. Another highlight of the game was that the Tigers stole 12 bases with Gannon Duke leading the way with three stolen bases.
On Thursday night, March 17, the Tigers traveled to Glenmora to play in the Glenmora Tournament. It didn’t take long for the Tigers to take down Glenmora by the final score of 10-3.
The Tigers got the scoring started early as Thorn Smith doubled in the top of the first inning scoring Clay Clark and Joshua Jones. LaSalle plated more runs in the fourth inning with a hit by Clark, a sacrifice fly by Smith and a double by Jones.
Brady Tatum led the Tigers to victory on the mound. Tatum allowed just six hits and three runs over five and one-third innings pitched and allowed no walks. Joshua Jones came in relief of Tatum and pitched one and two-thirds innings, striking out five Glenmora batters.
Jones, Smith, Bryson Ganey, Dannen Roark, Clark and Tanner Gagne each collected hits for the Tigers in the game.
The Tigers will look to start District 3-1A play this week, weather permitting. They were scheduled to play St. Mary’s on Monday in Olla, Block on Tuesday in Olla and travel to Lakeview on Friday.
Let’s all come out and cheer these guys on as they have worked hard to bring home a championship.
I hope to see you all at the games.
