In 1852, (before the start of the Civil War) Winn Parish was formed from parts of Catahoula, Natchitoches, and Rapides Parishes. Its county seat was established in Winnfield. During the early part of the Civil War, David Pierson was elected to represent the parish at the Secession Convention called in January 1861 in Baton Rouge by Governor Thomas Overton Moore. Winn Parish, and all the Parishes voted for State of Louisiana to secede from the Union. It turned put to be a “lost cause”.
