Murder suspect captured in Lake Charles

First-degree murder suspect Kendrick Cox wanted in connection with the January murder of Joshua Lee Humphries of Trout was captured in Lake Charles on August 5, according to a release from the Natchitoches ParishSheriff’s Office. Cox, 30, of Natchitoches, was captured between 4 and 5 p.m. by the Lake Charles Police Department, their SWAT Unit and other agencies following a surveillance operation of a Lake Charles apartment complex as part of an ongoing criminal investigation being conducted by detectives with the Lake Charles PD. Cox had been the subject of a six-month manhunt by multiplelaw enforcement agencies. Detectives say Cox was captured after an unidentified male picked him up in a vehicle at the apartment complex. As law enforcement were attempting to initiate a traffic stop, Cox fled from the vehicle. He was taken into custody a short distance away. Details of the Lake Charles investigation will be released by theiragency at a later date. Cox was transported to the Lake Charles PD for processing and was booked in jail with a hold from Natchitoches Parish forfirst-degreemurder. On January 13 of this year, Humphries was reported missing by family to the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office. His vehicle was found abandoned in Natchitoches by the Natchitoches Police Department just prior to him being reported missing. He was known to frequent the Alexandria and possibly the Natchitoches areas.
