Pam sent an email with an image, “What is this? It invaded my bathroom this morning while I was getting ready for work! It looks kind of like a moth, but it was buzzing like something that would bite or sting!” A hawk or sphinx moth, a harmless insect. Photo: Pam Archer, DeRidder, LA AHA asked Wood Johnson, an insect specialist with the US Forest Service, for identification, and he responded, “That is a moth which belongs to the family Sphingidae (hawk moths).
