The LaSalle Lady Tigers have opened up District 3-1A basketball play with a huge win against St. Mary’s and a last second loss at Montgomery. On January 10, the Lady Tigers hosted St. Mary’s for the district opener and won the game 59-34.

St Mary’s was able to keep it close in the first quarter, but the Lady Tigers broke open a huge lead behind the 24-point performance of Kenzie Nino. Mattie Parham led all rebounders in this matchup. In the second half of this contest, LaSalle was able to put St Mary’s away for good by opening up a 30-point lead at one point in the third quarter. The Lady Tigers went on to win the game 59-34 to improve to 17-4 overall and 1-0 in district play.

The next district matchup came on Friday when LaSalle, ranked #3, traveled to Montgomery, ranked #13. The ranking comes from the LHSAA state power points in the non-select division 4 category. LaSalle was able to win an earlier contest against Montgomery when they met in a tournament in De- cember.

This game was a great back and forth battle with LaSalle taking a 14-point lead at the halftime break. Montgomery battled back with the help of some foul trouble by LaSalle and cut the halftime lead to seven points starting the fourth quarter. Montgomery never backed down and pushed La-Salle a tie with three minutes left in the game. As the clock was counting down and just seconds left Montgomery was able to get a two-point lead. The final score of this epic battle was 51-49 with Montgomery coming out on top giving La-Salle its first district loss and its fifth loss over all.

The Lady Tigers will bounce back and prepare for Logansport and Northwood-Lena this coming week. Come fill the stands for these girls that are working hard to make this community and school proud. Hope to see you at the games.
