The other day I heard a lady say, “If you think grandchildren are great, just wait until you have great grandchildren!” I, being a grandmother or “Mamaw”, cannot imagine anything being better than my grandchildren! My four grandsons are the beat of my heart, the smile on my face that stretches from cheek-to-cheek, the cat’s meow in my life! (But I digress!) Without a doubt, grandchildren are so named ‘grand’ because that’s simply what they are. But what about the ‘grand’ in ‘grandparent’? Does that connotate a super parent? Parent on steroids? One who is a step above a parent in tolerance? To answer my own questions, “Yes, and so much more!”.
