The Wellspring Alliance for Families serves victims of domestic violence throughout LaSalle Parish. Our mission is to reduce the devastating impact of domestic violence on individuals, children, families, and communities.
Free, confidential services are now available in the new Jena office located at 1043 Courthouse Street. Services include safety planning, referrals to community resources, case management, transitional housing, protective orders, life skills classes, and more. For an appointment, call 348-3005.
• Honor Guard needs members
The LaSalle Parish Honor Guard is seeking new members. The Honor Guard provides military honor funerals and burials for all veterans, along with presenting programs in schools, churches and other venues as well as programs during Memorial Day and Veterans Day. The Little Free Food Pantry in Jena is located beside The Jena Times on Third Street in front of the town pavilion. The pantry is open to anyone in need and also for citizens to add items to keep the pantry stocked.
Pure Gold Women’s Conference
Pure Gold Women’s Conference 2023 wil be held at Shady Grove United Pentecostal Church, located at 1384 Hwy. 460 in Jena, on Saturday, March 18, beginning at 10 a.m.
Keynote speaker will be Christian recording artist Shara McKee, along with Thetus Tenney and David and Carlen Smith.
This event is free for all ladies ages 12 and up. Lunch will be provided.

Victims of crime can receive help with safety planning, guidance through the criminal justice system and access to certain resources to gain strength after victimization.
Services include emotional support, lethality assessment, prevention of abuse, and referrals to services. Assistance in filing Civil Temporary Restraining Orders or Crime Victim’s Reparations notification of court dates and accompanying the victim to interviews and court proceedings are also available.

Maker/Art
There is a 4-H Maker/Art Workshop slated for-Thursday, March 16, 2023.
What is a Maker Workshop? Creativity with a dash of imagination! 4-H’ers in 4th – 6th grades will create a variety of items centered around Science and Art. $10 registration fee due by Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

4-H University – Short Course
All 4-H’ers, who are currently in the 9th – 12th grades are eligible to attend. This is your chance to compete statewide against other 4-H members for cash, educational trips and awards trips. 4-H University is also an opportunity to explore the LSU campus, experience dormitory life, eat like a college student, visit with college faculty members and learn more about possible career choices.
4-H University will be held June 20-23. You will attend hands-on workshops and seminars on and off LSU campus. Deadline to register is May 15, 2023.
Deadline for fees, health forms and code of conduct is May 27. Contact the 4-H office for an application or pick on up at your club meeting!
4-H Summer Camp 2023
4-H Summer Camp is for members in grades 4th -6th this school year. Camp will cost $225 for 4 fun filled days on Monday, May 29th thru Thursday, June 1st.
4-H members will get to choose from eight education tracks: Food & Fitness – Science, Engineering & Technology – Outdoor adventures – Hunter Safety Certification – Wetlands, Wildlife & You – The Artist Within – Water Safety.
Camp deposit of $75 due March 13th. Final Camp balances due before April 13th. 4-H’ers in need of financial assistance will need to contact the 4-H office to provide necessary paperwork.
Registration forms are available at club meetings and in the 4-H office.
4-H members will complete their camp registration through 4-H online, after office receives deposit.

Free Tennis Clinic
Tennis Teaching Professional Ronnie Walters of Baton Rouge will hold a free tennis clinic for students in sixth through twelfth grade from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 3 at the Jena Town Park tennis courts.
Walters has been the Tennis Director at YMCA Paula Manship/Lamar Tennis Center in Baton Rouge since 2013. He coached boys and girls teams at The Dunham School in Baton Rouge for the past 10 years and was named the 2019-2020 National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Louisiana Tennis Coach of the Year.
