Children, teens and digital media: what every parent should know

Technology exists in almost every home in America. Approximately 94% of Americans have internet through a computer or smartphone. In 2019, studies showed that 53% of children, including those as young as three years, had a smartphone by the age of eleven. Those numbers have continued to rise. Digital media is known to have a substantial impact on the social, emotional, and educational development of children and teens. While there are risks in digital media use, parental education is the key to determining how much and how often children should be allowed to use the various forms of technology and digital media.
