April 29, 2023, is the 89th birthday of the great major league shortstop, Luis Aparicio, native and current resident of Maracaibo, Venezuela. When I was a young baseball fan, he was my favorite player, whether he was with the Chicago White Sox or the Baltimore Orioles. He was an important player in each team’s World Series appearances, was a regular All-Star at shortstop, won numerous Gold Glove awards and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984. He revived the art of base stealing in 1959, when he stole 56 bases to help the White Sox win the American League pennant.
