Mrs. Wade Andrews is new Jena High PTA President…At a meeting of the Jena High School Parent-Teacher Association, Mrs. Wade Andrews was installed as President. Other new officers are Mrs. R. L. Gray, Vice-President; Mrs. Roy Kirkley, Secretary; and M.C. Kinchen, Treasurer.

FFA Chapter Sweetheart, Darlene Bradford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Bradford of Whitehall, competes in Baton Rouge for the title of Louisiana FFA Sweetheart. Darlene was named Chapter Sweetheart earlier this year and is competing at the State FFA Convention.
Dickey Holt, 1963 graduate of Jena High School and son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Holt of Jena, has received an academic scholarship to Northeast Louisiana State College valued at $2,400.
Pvt. F-2 Glen Collins has been stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. since April. He finished basic training at Fort Polk and was promoted and assigned to Fort Bragg with 541st Transportation Company. Collins’ parents are Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Collins of Jena. His wife and children were with him.

Mrs. B. A. DeMars and Mrs. Wade Andrews held certificates and ribbons won by the LaSalle Home Demonstration Council at the State Council Meeting in Baton Rouge.
Boyd Family Reunion held Sunday, June 2nd. The annual Boyd Family Reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Noel Whittington on June 2nd. Some attending included Mr. and Mrs. Noel Whittington, Mr. and Mrs. George Wilkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Dub Whittington.
The annual Cockerham Reunion was held June 3rd at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cockerham and Mr. and Mrs. O. K. Allen. Some of those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lunsford, Larry and Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Allbritton.
The LaSalle Country Club was the scene of a reception on May 6, 1973 honoring the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Pipes. The event was hosted by their two daughters, Mrs. J. R. Peace of Sicily Island and Mrs. Jerry Jones of Cameron. Some of those attending were Mrs. Pearl Englade, Mr. and Mrs. Allie Dumphy of Crowley.

Col. William Thomas, Battalion Commander, pins a Louisiana Emergency Service Medal on Capt. Albert D. Poston, Company Commander of the Jena National Guard Unit.
Forty-one members of the Jena Unit of Louisiana National Guard were presented with Louisiana Emergency Service Medals during ceremonies at the armory on Sunday. Some of them are Robert J. Johnson, Floyd G. Knighten, and Roger L. Williams.
Jena High School Louisiana Girls State participants are Denise Poole, Stacey Weston, and Betty Walker. Boys State participants are Rob Wood, Buddy Bethard, Scott Windham, and Artis Worthington.
Louisiana State University has announced the list of students who earned a place on the Dean’s List for the spring semester. Marsha Gayle Adams of Jena was listed on the perfect grade honor list.

Hannah Salter, daughter of Kevin and Cherry Beth Salter of Olla, has been selected as a finalist in the 1998 Pre-Teen Louisiana Scholarship and Recognition Program held June 11-14 at the Radisson Hotel in Baton Rouge.
Fifth Grade students who received the President’s Award at Olla-Standard Elementary School were Sarah Webb, Jeffery Nugent, Heather Scott, and Brandy Smith.
Caylon Deason from Nebo Elementary was named Outstanding Junior 4-H Club member and received the 4-H Quilted Wall Hanging. The wall hanging was made by members of the La-Salle Parish Homemakers Council.
These students from Olla-Standard Elementary are winners of the globes donated by Mr. and Mrs. John Greene. They are Trey Havens, Ginny Smith, and Melissa Hamilton.

Thirty-three LaSalle Parish 4-H members participated in the 4-H Day at the Capital on Wednesday, May 29. State Representative Terry Brown of District 22 met with the LaSalle Parish group and guided them on a tour of the capitol. Some LaSalle Parish youth attending were Kristen Adams, Emily Allen, Ethan Bird, Seth Book, Allison Cruse, Harlee Dosher, Adrianna Fogleman, Natalie Hogan, Emma Humphries, Sydney Keene, Samuel Keene, Word Lindsey, Kaylie Madsen, Mallorie Marceaux, Sissi McNeely, Drake Nugent, Zoe Nugent, Audrey Paul, Bradley Paul, Nathan Parker, and Ainslee Poole.
Grand Opening and a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new Physical Fun Zone and other improvements for Recreation District #10 on June 1st. Betty Addison, President of the Recreation Board, cut the ribbon. Some of those assisting were Kiette Cooper, Johnnie Bethard, and Kelvin Patterson.
Bliss Kendrick, Joe and Joyce Henderson and Garland and Pat Cruse came and danced with the residents of LaSalle Nursing Home during National Nursing Home Week.
