Wild blackberry thickets can be found in road ditches and in the woodsides across the Parish. This yearâs bushes are producing bumper crops of berries.

Summer in a Bucket
Perhaps the official date of summer should not be dependent on a calendar day but should be contingent upon the day the blackberries start turning a deep delicious purple with a sweet taste that lingers in both the mouth and memory. A handful of blackberries to stain the fingers and tempt the palette is as much a part of southern nostalgia and hot humid culture as swimming holes and summer vacations are for school children.
